These are the first spy photos with the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider scheduled to be unveiled sometime next year.

It seems that Alfa Romeo is in a hurry to diversify its 4C lineup by launching a Spider version set for a market release in 2014. Seen here for the first time is a black prototype wearing camouflage on what appears to be a Targa-like roof which can be stored in a special compartment in the boot. Autoblog.it says some of the body panels will go through surgery on the Spider version, although these are not noticeable on the spotted prototype.

Chances are the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will feature a completely redesigned engine cowl while underneath will be the coupe's 1.75-liter, 4-cylinder turbo engine outputting 240 HP (177 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque transferred to the rear axle via a dual-clutch gearbox. Expect the curb weight to be slightly higher than the coupe's 895 kg (1,973 lbs).

Taking into consideration the 4C runs the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.5 seconds, the Spider will probably do it in 4.6 or 4.7s, before reaching a top speed of about 160 mph (258 km/h).

As you would imagine, the 4C Spider will be more expensive than the regular model.
