Video: History of BMW Roadsters

BMW's illustrious history began during World War I when the now-successful luxury car-builder developed fighter aircraft-engine. At the end of the WWI it switched to developing motorcycles, then in 1929, BMW bought its way into the car industry when it purchased the Dixi Car factory and started developing automobiles - some of its best were elegant roadsters.

The first roadster to roll out of Bimmer's factory was the 315/1, which was based on the 315 saloon. From here, things evolved to the 328, which was one of the most successful roadster ever developed by BM and won the Mille Miglia in many times and the 1939 24 Hours of Le Mans.

After the WWII, BMW was in great trouble and it needed a car to rescue it, and BMW thought that car was the 507. It was indeed a great car, with one of the most gorgeous design languages in the era and a powerful engine under the hood. However, because of its high price - $10,500 - the 507 was almost responsible for putting the BMW into bankruptcy. Only 252 units were ever developed, despite BMW's 5,000-units-per-year projection.

Next BMW started to develop the Z series, with the Z1 being the first model. What is very cool about the Z1 is that the doors drop down into the door sills so you can drive it with no doors. Next we had the Z3, Z8 and the current Z4. The black sheep of the family was the Z3, which never really looked or felt like a BMW.

Check out the video (above) to get a closer look at Bimmer's history of roadsters.

Mercedes USA has announced a voluntary recall for 432 units of the 2013 SL-Class roadsters due to an air-conditioner refrigerant line that can tear in a severe frontal crash. The vehicles affected were built from from December 19th, 2011 through May 31st, 2012 and are use the R1234yf refrigerant.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, if the refrigerant escapes from the hose, the gas mixture could be released into the engine compartment and cause a fire.

"Daimler AG, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, conducted product testing of a vehicle not sold in the U.S., but equipped with the same refrigerant. According to Mercedes-Benz, the testing was designed to replicate worst-case conditions expected in a severe frontal crash that would cause a rupture of the air-conditioner refrigerant line. A rupture of a refrigerant line will result in a gaseous mixture of refrigerant being released into the engine compartment. The testing determined that the escaping R1234yf refrigerant may ignite under specific conditions. The resulting fire could spread to additional combustible materials."

Mercedes announced that if someone is driving an affected model, they should address their local dealer who will replace the R1234yf refrigerant with a new, R134a refrigerant.

2012 Mercedes SLS Roadster By Domanig

Two years as they built software for the Bmw SLS AMG, German tuner Domanig has come by helping cover their another routine, only now, it’s for the SLS AMG Roadster.Despite the fact that there isn’t virtually any aesthetic improvements done within the car, this German receiver did employ a couple of things in store for the SLS Roadster. First is the auto tires, which Domanig calls for pride in. For this selected program, all of the German tuner fitted the particular SLS Roadster with a new set of 20" SOM03 wheels right in front and packaged it when it comes to 275/30ZR20 Michelin Super Pursuit tires. From the back, the contrary was 21" DOM06 locomotive's wheels rapped in 305/25/ZR21 Michelin Ultra Sport automobile.Moving on to any car’s suspension, Domanig increased a new KW suspension device that not exclusively lowers this car’s ride distance off the ground by Thirty millimeters, but also helps it to be work in combination with the supercar’s customary Ride Restrain system. As a final point, Domanig made a lot of engine and to the SLS Roadster Six to eight.3-liter V8 engine not to mention ramped up it's output within the standard 571 hp to over 600 ponies. 620 horsepower, to generally be accurate.Total, the program is usually bereft of the type other tuners, but so far as unbridled electrical power is concerned, the application gave a lot of an added hand techinque.

BMW Zagato Roadster 2013 Review

As you may keep in mind if you've followed us over the past few months, captured we had the ability to see the one-off BMW Zagato Coupe Concept within the 2012 Concorso déleganza Villa d-Este within northern France. Now it appears that BMW has was able to create some other Zagato spin-off, this time as per the BMW Z4 convertible. With that in mind, the BMW Zagato Roadster The year 2013 has been created and even showcased around the Concours d'Elegance held last weekend at Pebble Beach CA.The popular Zagato is basically a new topless variation of the Coupe but the report behind it is rather amazing. Your entire body has is without a doubt crafted totally from aluminum and has long been built in solely six weeks, quite impressive as you would expect. In terms of model the new Roadster edition looks a lot better than the Vehicle and I'm confident many of you would probably agree. A lot of BMW enthusiasts were a bit frustrated about the model of the Coupe's rear-end, but yet things have altered with the Roadster rendition. Nevertheless the smooth top continues to be redesigned so that they can retain the double-bubble roof top expected right from aZagato. In addition, "Z" shoe inserts are to be found in many places in your body of the Roadster, a quality we've seen for other one-off units before along with the Bentley GTZ and theAston Martin DB7 Zagato. For the interior there aren't many changes if compared to the standard BMW Z4 and also other than the "Z" insignias stitched during the headrests there are not many some other unique elements brought to the table.Alas BMW once again planned to keep industry specifications seeing that secret as possible despite the fact that all the Roadster is a completely functional concept. Then again, as with theCoupe people expect your topless variation to offer BMW's strongest Z4 engine, a few of the.0 actu turbocharged unit qualified to develop Three hundred and forty horsepower. For the reason that before, this unique BMW appears to be a real one-off concept and may not see the lighting of daytime ever again, although the Zagato Roadster 2013 will probably influence the typical design of the long run Z4 convertible types, so no less than it gives us an insight of the to expect. Just what are your thoughts on the matter? Do you reckon the Bavarian automobile maker can be pushing the particular Z4 in the perfect direction?
