The fifth-generation Ford Mustang might have been replaced by a redesigned, more modern iteration for the 2015 model year, but it's still a number one choice for drag racers nationwide due to its traditional - some might say ancient - live rear axle. Fifth-gen 'Stangs can be seen burning rubber at just about any drag racing event across the U.S., but very few of them are as mind-blowing as the one you're about to see in this video. And there's more than one reason for that.
First, the Boss 302 coupe hides a massive, 82mm turbo under its hood, which enables the modified Coyote engine to send a whopping 1,000 horsepower to the rear wheels through a race-spec Rossler transmission. Second, the vehicle is well-camouflaged as a street car, with only the rear drag radials giving away its potential. Then there's the amazing fact that it can run 8-second quarter-miles. If that doesn't impress you, the fact that it's nearly a second quicker than a 1,200-horsepower Nissan GT-R should. In a rather unexpected turn of events, Ford took the automotive world by surprise in early 2015, when it introduced a host of high-performance models, such as the second-generation GT supercar, the Shelby GT350R and the third-gen Focus RS. In the latest episode of Drive, Chris Harris performed a rather interesting head-to-head comparison, putting a Mercedes G63 AMG against a Ford Fiesta ST. That may sound insane, given the ST hits 60 mph in around 7 seconds and the G63 AMG does the same in 5.3 seconds, but there is a twist. The twist is that Harris wanted to see if the G63 AMG could beat the Fiesta ST to 60 mph while towing, well... the Fiesta ST...
That's right, Chris strapped 4 tons of trailer and car to the G63 AMG and put the pedal to the metal to see if monstrous Benz SUV can get to 60 mph in under 7 seconds. Quite an interesting and original comparison.
As a reminder, the G63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-liter V-8 biturbo engine that delivers a total of 544 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. The Fiesta ST's 1.6-liter turbocharged engine produces 197 horsepower and 214 pound of torque.
So, is the Fiesta ST faster under its own power or while strapped to the back of the Mercedes?

Ford announced today that the last retail 2014 Shelby GT500 Convertible will be auctioned on August 9, 2013 at the Hot August Nights Auction presented by Barrett-Jackson. All the proceeds will go to the Brain Injury Association of America.
The winner of the auction will have the possibility to customize the GT500 Convertible according to his or her personal desire. Ford offers the opportunity to choose between any imaginable interior, exterior and striping package that will offer a buyer to create a one-off GT500. The car will also be signed by Indy 500 winner, Parnelli Jones, who will attend the auction as well.
At the auction, Ford will also offer both Ride-and-Drive and hot lap experiences in the parking lot of the Atlantis Casino Resort. Visitors will have the chance to experience models like Shelby GT500, 2014 Focus ST and 2014 Fiesta ST.

Hot Wheels has made a real Darth Vader car, the ATS-V has been spied bombing around the Green Hell, the VW Eos is dead, we have new info on the Polaris Slingshot, there is a new SVT Mustang coming and BMW has made a one-off version of the new i8. If we have time, there is also news about a new supercharged and turbocharged Ferrari engine, a new Mad Max movie is coming, and I want to talk about my time with 4K gaming.
Yeah, it's a jam-packed show and I can't wait.

If you dig deep into the Mustang's history and pull up the first generation, you will find that it was actually a mid-model-year addition to Ford's lineup, which makes it a 1964 1/2 model year. Back then, half-model-year vehicles were not a too rare, like they are today, but it looks as if we are set to see one really soon in the next-gen Mustang.
According to an insider that spoke to the folks over at Mustangs Daily, there will be a limited run of next-generation Mustang's bearing the 2014 1/2 model year. The insider claims that this is a way for Ford to celebrate the true 50th anniversary of the famed pony car.
According to the report, only 1,000 examples if the 2014 1/2 Mustangs will see production and they will each feature a special VIN and build number to separate them from the 2015 models. With only 1,000 units hitting showrooms at what we assume will be a rather inflated price, this special run of next-gen Mustangs will be an instant collector's item.
The report also indicates that, despite an anticipated price hike, the 2014 1/2 model will not feature any power upgrades.
If this report proves to be true, then we are likely getting rather close to seeing Ford drop the camo from the Mustang in time to squeeze in for 2014. Stay tuned for more details!

In the depressed European car market, Ford said its sales rose 6.4% in June in 19 European countries, while total industry sales fell 6.5%, Detroit Free Press reported, citing the company’s top executive for the region.
Stephen Odell, executive vice president for the company’s operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said “it feels good to once again go against the industry trend where our sales are up and the industry is down.”
The automaker is forecasted to sell 13.5 million new cars this year in Europe.
Ford lost $462 million in Europe in the first quarter. Executives have warned investors the company expects to lose at least $2 billion in the region this year, according to the newspaper.
The company is cutting 5,700 jobs at three facilities in the U.K. and Belgium for annual savings of $450 million to $500 million. The company’s Genk factory in Belgium will close in late 2014.

Ford's launch of the Mustang can only be described as spectacular with reveals in multiple cities and countries around the world. The overriding fact that Ford is going global with the 2015 Mustang is perhaps the biggest news about the Mustang nameplate. It's hard to imagine a bigger birthday present to an iconic car celebrating its 50th year in production.

We have known for quite some time now that with the new-generation Mustang, Ford will replace the current Shelby GT500 with a new GT350 version. The Shelby moniker will also likely be dropped and replaced by the "Cobra" name.
Until now, everything we knew on the GT350 was pure speculations, but a Mustang fanatic at MustangG6 managed to catch what he claims is the GT350 on open road. If this claim is accurate, than it is the first time anyone has caught the GT350 on video. Even if this is not the GT350, it still bodes well for the upcoming Mustang lineup, because this thing sounds fierce!
There are few details on the new GT350 just yet, but rumors suggest it will drop the current supercharged 5.8-liter, V-8 engine that develops 662 horsepower in the GT500. Instead it will be powered by a 5.0-liter, Coyote V-8 that will deliver about 450 horsepower. Sure, that's a huge drop in output, but it will be more fuel efficient.
No mater what engine it uses, the sound is amazing, so enjoy the video!

The SEMA Auto Show wouldn’t be complete without the presence of Ford’s resident muscle car, the Mustang. SEMA without the Mustang is like 4th of July without the barbecue and fireworks; it just can’t be celebrated that way.
One Mustang that will be in attendance will be presented by DSO Eyewear, a sunglass company that has dived into the auto world in the past. They even had a program for the Ford Explorer at the 2011 SEMA event. This year, they’re shifting gears and tackling the iconic Mustang, specifically the more powerful 2013 Mustang GT variant.
True to the nature of the event, DSO Eyewear spared the pleasantries and went right down to business, fitting the Mustang GT with a Whipple twin-screw supercharger with its own intercooler. The result is a Mustang GT that carries an improved output of 750 horsepower, a drastic upgrade from the stock model’s 420-horsepower capabilities.
In addition to the new supercharger, DSO Eyewear also added a new Eibach suspension system, a new aerodynamic body kit from 3D Carbon, an extensive interior dress-up, a Rockford audio system, and a new set of wheels and tires to go with new Brembo brakes.
Needless to say, that Whipple twin-screw supercharger is the unquestioned star of DSO Eyewear’s program for the Mustang GT. For an eyewear company, these guys sure know what they’re doing when it comes to dishing out chops in the aftermarket scene.

Although everyone expects the Ford Mustang to be one of the biggest attractions at the upcoming 2012 SEMA Auto Show, we haven’t heard much about the tuning packages that will be displayed in Las Vegas. At least, not until now, as we’ve received the first details on a kit developed by the guys over at Pictographics.
Based on a 2013 Ford Mustang, their Track Fighter package features a paint scheme inspired by a WWII P-51 Mustang, or Major Edwin W. Hiro’s P-51-D airplane, nicknamed the "Horses Itch," to be exact.
The paint scheme is the first noticeable addition, but people don’t just come to SEMA to show off a fresh coat of paint. This Mustang also But of course that the car won’t be brought to SEMA just to show a paint scheme. The car also received a series of rather impressive updates: Doug Thorley Headers and helmets with communication gear; iPhone and iPad dash integration with RAM mounting brackets, tow hooks and Boss front splitter.
The car sits on a new set of forged wheels wrapped in Nitto tires and combined with a new coil-over suspension system and Eibach springs.

The 2013 Ford Fusion will be well represented at the 2012 SEMA Auto Show. That much appears to be evident with the release of a number of previews for the hybrid sedan, all of which come with their own unique modifications from a variety of aftermarket companies.
One of the SEMA-bound Fusion models comes from a team that’s no stranger to the SEMA floor: Tjin Edition.
Last year, Tjin Edition brought four models to SEMA. This year, we still don’t know how many they have under the sheets. What we do know is one of them is the Ford Fusion. For their take on the hybrid sedan, Tjin Edition started off by dressing up the Fusion in a DuPoint Beige paint finish to go with a 3D Carbon lip kit. There’s also a fancy set of 21" copper iForged Concave wheels wrapped in Falken tires, copper mirror caps, a Baer big brake upgrade with lime green brake calipers, and modified suspension from Pedders.
Inside, the modifications are also extensive, although full details are still being withheld. Tjin Edition does look like its bringing some more of that lime color as shown by the dress-up done on the steering wheel. The aftermarket company also installed a new Scosche Audio audio system to give the car some serious audio power. Par for the course on a car headed to SEMA, right?
Rounding out the modifications for the Fusion Tjin Edition is the addition of a custom turbo kit from Unique Fabrication and a side-exit exhaust system from Magnaflow. No word yet on how much of a performance boost this will generate, but we expect it to be on the up-and-up side.
