Jaguar F-Type R Coupe - Driven

Jaguar has always epitomized the proper gentleman's car for me - especially its sports cars. The imagery of an Englishman with his driving cap donned, twisting down some wet country road after tea time flashes through my mind when I consider where a Jaguar should feel most at home. Sadly, Jaguar lost its way for a few years, producing less-than-stellar vehicles with even less-stellar reliability records.

However that tide is certainly turning, thanks to Jaguar's new parent company Tata Motors. Jaguar, along with is sister company Land Rover, has seen vast improvements. Leading that charge for Jag is this: the F-Type.

Introduced in 2013 as a convertible and 2014 as a coupe, the F-Type has swung perceptions of the brand and enlivened and grown (or should I say replenished) its fan base. Jaguar does make other fantastic cars, but none of them boast the outright appeal and allure as the F-Type.

And within the F-Type category, none appeal more than the 550-horsepower F-Type R. With the keys in hand for a week, I set out to discover exactly what the F-Type - and its revived brand - have to say for themselves.

Peugeot 208 T16 Rally Car Climbs Volcanic Mount Etna: Video

Even though it's titled "Etna Volcano Climb," the video above doesn't depict a theater of the absurd, but the meaning should be taken literally - a rally car actually climbed Sicily's Mount Etna, which is one of the most active volcanos in the world. The car in question is the Peugeot 208 T16 in rally guise, driven by national rally champion Paolo Andreucci. Obviously, part of the footage is a tribute to the famous "Climb Dance" cin ma v rit short film (click the name to see it), which featured legendary rally driver Ari Vatanen setting a record time at the 1988 Pikes Peak Hillclimb.

Not coincidentally, both films depict Peugeots, but Vatanen drove a 405 Turbo T16 GR hillclimb car, while Andreucci used a modern 208 T16 hatch built for rallying. Unlike the Climb Dance, the new Peugeot video is strictly a marketing ploy and doesn't feature any record-breaking attempt, but the footage is still mesmerizing.

Even though the CGI shots at the end are a bit tacky, the car going sideways up those volcanic roads makes for some pretty cool video action. Despite featuring a range of craters with intense and almost continuous activity, Mount Etna is one of Sicily's main tourist attractions. In Greek mythology, the forges of Hephaestus were said to be located underneath the volcano, so there is also a lot of history surrounding the area. That doesn't make Peugeot's stunt any less dangerous, since the volcano could have erupted at any moment.

Future Chevrolet Corvette, CUV Teased In TV Show Clip?

In a recent episode of Americarna on the Velocity channel, Ray Evernham has a quick chat with Ed Welburn, global vice president of design for General Motors, to see some of what it takes to bring vehicle design concepts to the real world. The clip is remarkable in that it shows the inner workings of how GM develops its future cars and concept vehicles, but if you look close, there might also be a few sneak peeks to enjoy.

First, Welburn shows a full-scale clay model of what looks to be a small crossover, and the interesting part of this is that you can just barely make out the existence of a Chevrolet bowtie on the wheels. It would appear that this model is inspired by a sketch - some of which can be seen on the wall at around the 1:17 mark. Could this be the next-gen Chevy Equinox?

The true highlight of the video comes when Welburn gets to designer Christine Park, who says she's working on the design of a "Chevy sports car." There are a few different vehicle designs visible on her computer monitor, but the one that sticks out the most is the yellow vehicle wearing the signature crossed flag emblem of the Corvette on its nose. The short nose and vented hood could very well be the oft-rumored, mid-engined Corvette named "Zora." Of course, the Corvette's chief engineer, Tadge Juechter, recently denied rumored of this car's existence.

McLaren 675LT

In a move that would fill the space left between the 650S supercar and the astronomically potent P1 hypercar, McLaren looks to be building a "track-focused development of the 650S" called the 675LT. With a nod to the F1 GTR "Long Tail," which competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance races of the late-90s, the limited-production 675LT would pack an even bigger punch than its 650S sibling, wringing every last ounce of performance possible from the platform.

Featuring enhanced aerodynamics, less weight, and even more power, the 675LT will essentially be offered as a barely-road-legal race car. It may bear all the appropriate markings of something you'd find out on a public highway, like headlights, a windshield, turn signals, and tires with grooves, but given the appropriate environment, the 675LT would handily trounce just about any competitor in a contest of speed. However, this extra performance also come at a hugely inflated price over the $265,500 650S.

Turbocharged Mustang 8-Second Quarter-Mile: Video

The fifth-generation Ford Mustang might have been replaced by a redesigned, more modern iteration for the 2015 model year, but it's still a number one choice for drag racers nationwide due to its traditional - some might say ancient - live rear axle. Fifth-gen 'Stangs can be seen burning rubber at just about any drag racing event across the U.S., but very few of them are as mind-blowing as the one you're about to see in this video. And there's more than one reason for that.

First, the Boss 302 coupe hides a massive, 82mm turbo under its hood, which enables the modified Coyote engine to send a whopping 1,000 horsepower to the rear wheels through a race-spec Rossler transmission. Second, the vehicle is well-camouflaged as a street car, with only the rear drag radials giving away its potential. Then there's the amazing fact that it can run 8-second quarter-miles. If that doesn't impress you, the fact that it's nearly a second quicker than a 1,200-horsepower Nissan GT-R should. Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Makes Some Noise: Video

While everyone is busy trying to guess what sort of track monster Aston Martin will unveil at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show under the Vulcan name, the Brits quietly introduced the Vantage GT3 Special Edition. Essentially a street-legal version of the carmaker's GT3-spec race car, this new V-12-powered rig is aimed at the bonkers 911 GT3, with Aston Martin hoping to defeat the benchmark of all track-ready sports cars by means of 600 PS (592 horsepower). Naturally, you don't stand a chance against the 911 GT3 unless you go to fat-camp first, but the folks over at Aston Martin took care of that by shaving no fewer than 220 pounds off the car's weight compared to the standard Vantage.

Of course, the GT3's interior features fewer bells and whistles than usual, but if you fancy race-ready bits, this Vantage has you covered. The big news obviously lies under the long hood, where the naturally aspirated, 5.9-liter V-12 engine roars to the tune of 600 PS, which represents a 27 PS gain over the standard Vantage. More importantly, the updated, race-spec mill sounds downright stunning, obliterating the 911 GT3's as far as decibels go. Momkhana - Aka Mom and Kids Drifting in a Minivan: Video

If you think that Ken Block's Gymkhana videos are getting a bit repetitive as of late, almost all of them showing the rally driver drifting an all-wheel-drive monster around cones, people, or construction equipment, get ready to watch something a bit different in the footage above. This so-called Momkhana video depicts a mother of two taking her two kids on a drifting joyride in a Toyota Sienna through a suburban neighborhood, and then arriving in style at a Famous Footwear retail shop.

Normally, this would sound highly implausible, but the filmmakers and people in charge of the action had a few tricks up their sleeves. First of all, the driver is not exactly your average "soccer mom," but none other than Shauna Duggins, a stunt woman world-renowned for her work in a number of Hollywood action movies. Also, the Toyota Sienna has been thoroughly modified by the folks at J.E.M. F/X, who among other things also transplanted a 550 horsepower V-8 into the minivan's engine bay.

Last, but not least, if you watch the "Making Of" video you will see that the two children in the back weren't actually in any danger during the shoot, as some of the smokey donuts were done using a smoke machine and a set of caster wheels. Even so, don't try this at home with your family minivan - leave it to the professionals.

Video: Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Roadster Makes Some Noise

There's a lot that I like about the Tesla Model S. I like how it elevates electric vehicles from hum-drum commuters to the realm of sports cars. I also like how the instant torque can rocket the thing toward performance figures that embarrass most petrol-powered vehicles. On top of all of that, it also looks fantastic. But there's one thing that the Model S, and indeed all electric vehicles, will never possess: ear-quaking sound. Years of exposure to exploding dinosaur juice has created in every car nut out there a Pavlovian response that, when done right, results in a solid case of the fizzies.

A V-12 from Aston Martin makes one such sound. The Brits sure do know how to make an exhaust sound great, and the Vantage S Roadster is testament to that, with its guttural, snarly, vicious set of pipes. As the host of this video, Alex Kersten, puts it, the V12 Vantage simply sounds "glorious."

For many folks, the sound of a drop-top sports car is as important as its 0-to-60 time and horsepower figures. The sensation of accelerating with maximum thrust, gripping through a corner, and pouring wind through the cabin is simply incomplete without that all-important exhaust note.

Perhaps, many years in the future, such a feature will seem archaic, wasteful even. "What's the point?" they'll ask. If such a day ever arrives, let's hope there's an Aston Martin with a V-12 and a few drops of gasoline around to teach them.

Video: Renault Megane 275 Trophy Out For A Spin

There are a lot of cool cars we're not getting here in the United States for one reason or another, and the 2014 Renault Megane 275 Trophy is one of them. Just like the 2014 Seat Leon SC Cupra 280, the Megane 275 Trophy is an amazingly quick hot hatch and, as of 2014, the fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle around the Nurburgring track. At least the limited-edition Trophy-R is, because the regular production model is a bit heavier and lacks some of the racing goodies that come with the "R" badge. Either way, the 275 Trophy is the race-bred hatch the Volkswagen Golf R isn't, although the German isn't bad either.

While we won't get to drive it unless we travel to Europe, the folks over in mainland Europe or the Great Britain have no trouble in purchasing the 275 Trophy and taking it to the track. For those of you still not convinced of the Trophy's cool factor, there's a brand-new review coming from XCar that you might want to watch. I know French cars have a lousy reputation in the U.S., but this video has what it takes to prove that the Megane 275 Trophy is a Renault like no other; one that we desperately need here in the States.

There's only one downside to it, besides the fact that we can't buy it, of course. Its 38,000 French sticker, which converts to around $47,300 as of 11/28/2014, makes it awfully expensive. For that kind of dough, there are a lot of cool sports cars you can by on this side of the pond. Very few of them benefit from race-bred technology like the 275 Trophy though. Video: Tesla Model S P85 Vs. Mercedes G63 AMG on the Drag Strip

Sometimes it's hard to comprehend just how fast electric cars can be. Take for example, this Tesla Modes S P85. It sits side by side with a twin-turbocharged V-8 lurking inside a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. Don't forget that V-8 pumps out an impressive 536 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque through a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission and a four-wheel-drive system. However, as this video shows, things aren't always as they seem.

The Tesla's 85-kWh battery pumps out 416 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough for a 0-to-60-mph run of four seconds and a quarter-mile time in the 12-second range. Around town, the battery has enough juice for a leisurely 265-mile drive on a single charge. That's immensely impressive considering the Model S can carry five adults and two smaller children.

Without spoiling the outcome, both high-performance machines give it all they got once the Christmas tree turns green. Its also extremely odd to consider just how different these two are. One is a bygone German military machine with modern luxury aspirations with a thirst for dead dino blood while the other is a modern take on the electric car built wholly inside the United States by American workers for the purpose of conserving natural resources and promoting environmental awareness.

It's sort of ironic that these vehicles' exterior colors match their stark differences to a tee.

Video: Chris Harris Puts the Fiesta ST Against the G63 AMG in a Weird Way

In the latest episode of Drive, Chris Harris performed a rather interesting head-to-head comparison, putting a Mercedes G63 AMG against a Ford Fiesta ST. That may sound insane, given the ST hits 60 mph in around 7 seconds and the G63 AMG does the same in 5.3 seconds, but there is a twist. The twist is that Harris wanted to see if the G63 AMG could beat the Fiesta ST to 60 mph while towing, well... the Fiesta ST...

That's right, Chris strapped 4 tons of trailer and car to the G63 AMG and put the pedal to the metal to see if monstrous Benz SUV can get to 60 mph in under 7 seconds. Quite an interesting and original comparison.

As a reminder, the G63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-liter V-8 biturbo engine that delivers a total of 544 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque. The Fiesta ST's 1.6-liter turbocharged engine produces 197 horsepower and 214 pound of torque.

So, is the Fiesta ST faster under its own power or while strapped to the back of the Mercedes?

Video: Ferrari LaFerrari XX Makes Some Noise On The Track

Ferrari's new LaFerrari. is already the most powerful road Ferrari ever built, thanks to a hybrid engine that combines to produce an incredible 963 horsepower. With so much power, many people have wondered how Ferrari could ever top it.

But over the past few months, spy photos and spy videos of a "LaFerrari XX" have been captured, showing a track-focused supercar undergoing some serious test runs. One video even captured the LaFerrari XX in a test run that went a little too hard, breaking its suspensiosn and nearly losing a wheel.

Recently, a new video of the LaFerrari XX was spotted, and while it lacked the drama of suspension damage, this one perfectly captures the piercing sound of that engine.

The acoustics are downright incredible and borderline insane. Even when the LaFerrari XX was at a distance far removed from the camera, you could still hear it's engine unleash the fury of Ferrari engineering at its finest.

Here's a tip: watch this video with the volume turned up. You'll appreciate it a whole lot more.

Video: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Testing At Nurburgring

If you haven't been living under a rock lately, you already know Chevrolet is working on the sixth-generation Camaro, due to arrive in 2015. Testing is already underway, with a camouflaged prototype being spotted near and on the Nurburgring track in September 2014. We received a bevy of spy shots as soon as the pony car hit the German pavement and although that was enough to make out some of details and speculate upon its new styling, we have yet to see the new Camaro in action. Thankfully, the wait ends right now, as the first video footage featuring the muscle car on the Nurburgring has hit the Interwebz.

Of course, the video doesn't add to what we already know so far about the new Camaro, but it does reveal the exhaust note of the V-8 fitted under the hood. There's no trace of supercharger whine in the soundtrack, so it's safe to assume we're looking at the naturally aspirated Camaro SS. Chevy has yet to spill the details on the greasy bits, but we expect it to drop a detuned version of the Corvette Stingray's 6.2-liter, LT1 V-8 under the Camaro's hood. It is also likely the manufacturer will offer a dual-mode exhaust system on the SS. Output figures should sit in the 430-horsepower range, right above the 2015 Mustang GT.

Naturally, the 2016 Camaro range will be completed by a V-6 unit, likely to return with the same 3.6-liter displacement, but word has it Chevy is also pondering a turbocharged four-cylinder as an answer to the Mustang's 2.3-liter EcoBoost unit. Video: Tribute To Audi UrQuattro

We've all come to appreciate Audi's iconic quattro technology, one of the world's most potent all-wheel-drive systems. Its what makes modern Audis such great vehicles, from the full-size A8 sedan to the Q7 SUV and the R8 supercar.

Now in its seventh generation, the quattro system has been enabling Audi engines to send their power to all four corners for 34 years. That's not to say it took the Germans more than three decades to achieve perfection. No, the quattro was equally revolutionary when it was introduced in 1980, but sometimes it's a good idea to look back on those brilliant ideas that changed the automotive world forever. And that's what Petrolicious did with its latest video, which pays tribute to the UrQuattro, the first four-ringed vehicle to receive all-wheel-drive.

The UrQuattro, also known as simply Quattro, debuted in 1980 as a midsize, two-door coupe. While not exactly spectacular by design, the Quattro was the first vehicle to benefit from Audi's then brand-new all-wheel-drive system. The feat proved to be decisive into turning the boxy UrQuattro into a legend on both the road and rally courses.

Although the production car remained largely unchanged until it was discontinued in 1991, the Quattro spawned a series of fierce rally cars. It all began with the A1 in 1980, which then developed into the Group B-spec S1 evolution. The latter was one of the most extreme rally cars ever built and went on to win several WRC events and the Pikes Peak Hill Climb three years in a row. In all, the quattro system helped Audi score 23 rally wins and two WRC titles, among other trophies.

Sure, Audi is no longer building rally cars, but that's not to say the quattro has abandoned its motorsport roots. The connection is still obvious in the company's results at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race the Germans have won 13 times the last 15 years.

Video: Meet the AirDog Prototype; the GoPro Drone that Follows You

I have a GoPro Hero 3+ and aside from the Aston Martin DB5 and good Scotch, I think it is basically the greatest thing ever created. I use it to do all of my in-car review videos here on site, as well as every time lapse video you have seen from me. The only real problem with the GoPro, is that it is mounted to what I am driving. If I want an external shot, there are multiple people involved and it can be kind of hassle. But now there is a new thing called the AirDog, and it might just make my list of greatest inventions ever.

In a basic sense, the AirDog is a just a camera drone, a quadcopter. There are dozens for sale all over the internet and they allow you to fly a machine with a GoPro attached to it to get some great aerial shots. With this setup you still need a second person to fly the drone though, so it still isn't very useful to someone who does solo filming like I do. What makes the AirDog special is that it actually flies itself and follows you wherever you go.

It does this thanks to what the company calls an "air leash." This device connects to the Airdog, and then it stays strapped to the owner's wrist. The Airdog will continually follow the leash and stay at a defined height and distance. This gives you perfect aerial tracking shots without the help of another person. It is insanely brilliant. The wrist device allows you to change settings on the AirDog while it is in flight, and it is waterproof and shockproof so you don't have to worry about it.

The project was started as a Kickstarter, but it blew WAY past its funding goal and secured more than $1.3-million in funding. The project is off the ground now, and you can place a pre-order at Airdog.com.

First shipments are expected in December 2014.

Video: Nismo Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary

30 years ago, Nissan created its motorsports and high-performance division, Nismo. That was back in 1984. Now, it's 2014, and Nismo is still alive and healthy as can be. Over the years, it's been largely responsible for a lot of Nissan's success in racing, so it's only fitting that Nissan has released a commemorative video to celebrate Nismo's 30th anniversary.

As with all trips down memory lane will show you, the video showcases Nismo's history, beginning with its establishment in Omori, Tokyo, before running through all of its motor racing accomplishments. If you weren't old enough to remember those years, Nismo was a formidable presence in a lot of racing series all over the world. It competed in Asia, and Europe, spread across numerous racing disciplines, including the 1986 Le Mans 24-Hour Race where Nismo first competed using the Nissan R85V.

High-level racing success for Nismo continued well into the 90's and in the 2000's. Along the way, Nismo also began expanding its reach by beginning aftermarket work on a handful of Nissan models, none more prominent than on the Skyline GT-R and its eventual successor, the Nissan GT-R.

Congratulations on 30 years of success and innovation, Nismo! We'd buy you a round of sake on us if we could, but since we can't, we'll just raise our metaphorical glasses and toast to more years of success, both on and off the race track.

Video: Mercedes Models Arrive In The World of Mario Kart 8

Seeing Mercedes models in video games is something we expect to see in Gran Turismo or Forza 5. But Mario Kart 8? Can't say we saw this one coming.

But as it turns out, some of Mercedes' finest models have been included as a sponsored pack for Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. The video above shows such iconic classics like the 300 SL Roadster and the W 25 Silver Arrows mixed in with modern-day offerings like the GLA-Class and the CLA-Class.

It's an eclectic lineup of Mercedes models, but it's definitely an effective way to reach a new platform of gamers that don't play the Xbox One or the PlayStation 4. We've found Mario Kart to be incredibly addicting in the past, and these Mercedes likely won't make it easier to drop the controller.

If you happen to have Wii U and Mario Kart 8, check out the video above. It might even entice you to get the Mercedes pack once you're done watching it.
