Video: Jay Leno reviews the 1956 Maserati A6G-2000 Allemano

Jay Leno took a brake from all the supercars he reviewed lately and in its latest episode of his show he decided to take a look at the 1956 Maserati A6G-2000 Allemano - a model that took best in its class at Pebble Beach 2011.

The car was brought to him by Jonathan Segal - the owner of this exquisitely restored Allemano.

What makes the Maserati A6G-2000 even more special - next to being a very cool classic car, is that only 21 units were ever built by coach builder Allemano. The A6G-2000 was the first sports car developed by Maserati after the World War II and was powered by a 2-liter six-cylinder engine with an output of about 140 horsepower.

Currently the A6G-2000 are very expensive cars, as there were a few units sold for a few millions at the current auctions.

Check out the video to see what Jay Leno thinks about the 1956 Maserati A6G-2000 Allemano.

2013 Mazda3 Sedan

New Mazda3

For the 2013 model year, the most important changes coming to the Mazda3 includes greater availability of the company’s new SkyActiv powertrain as well as more standard comfort features.

The 2013 Mazda3 is available in i SV, i Sport, i Touring, i Grand Touring, s Touring and s Grand Touring trims.

The i Sport trim - available as a sedan only - gets a SkyActiv powertrain standard for 2013, replacing the 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The 155-hp, 2.0-liter SkyActiv four-cylinder engine with direct injection, adds 10% more passing-lane torque than the normal 2.0-liter four-cylinder and is available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy comes in at an impressive 28/40 mpg city/highway for the sedan model with an automatic transmission.

While pricing information isn’t available, the i Sport was $1,855 less expensive than the most affordable SkyActiv trim (an i Touring sedan) available in 2012.

Other changes to the i Sport make it more competitive with the segment and don’t force shoppers to move up to a Touring trim. For 2013, it adds the multi-information display seen on the rest of the lineup and a USB port as standard equipment. The higher trim levels also receive a USB port standard, which is an odd feature for Mazda not to have.

Air conditioning is now standard on all models; formerly air conditioning was unavailable on the base i SV trim. A passive entry keyless system, push-button start and automatic climate control are now standard on the i Touring and i Grand Touring trims (formerly the options were unavailable). Blind spot monitoring is now standard on the i Grand Touring and s Grand Touring trims and available on the i Touring.

The s Grand Touring now gets rain-sensing windshield wipers, self-leveling bi-xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights and an alarm system standard.

A firm launch date for the 2013 Mazda3 wasn’t made available, though Mazda spokeswoman Beverly Braga said it will go on sale later in 2012.

2013 Lexus ES350 and ES300h Hybrid Unveiled

2013 Lexus ES350 design

The introduction of the all-new 2013 ES350 and ES300h marks the sixth generation of Lexus’ popular luxury sedan since its introduction over 20 years ago. Featuring the signature Lexus spindle grille, a progressive new design and enhanced handling, the ES brings new levels of refinement and quality to the entry luxury segment. Now available with Lexus Hybrid Drive, the ES is sure to impress new and loyal consumers.

“Since its introduction in 1989, the ES has been the benchmark luxury sedan for quality, reliability, ride comfort and value,” said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “The new ES350 and the first ever ES hybrid raise the bar once again.”

For the first time, the Lexus ES will be available with Lexus Hybrid Drive.Featuring a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, the ES300h is expected to earn EPA fuel economy ratings of approximately 40 mpg city, 39 mpg highway and 39 mpg combined. The ES300h generates 200 total system horsepower.

The new, low friction engine utilizes a sophisticated power management system and high compression ratio
(12.5:1) to increase overall efficiency. Equipped with an electric water pump, electric power steering, and an integrated hybrid electric motor/generator, this engine does not require any accessory belts. The
beltless design helps improve fuel economy and overall reliability.

The Lexus ES350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with Dual VVT-i that delivers 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 248 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,700. The six-speed sequential-shift automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) provides enhanced driving performance, fuel efficiency and smooth shifts. Low friction materials further improve efficiency and help with the ES350′s EPA-fuel economy estimates of 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.

Both the Lexus ES350 and ES300h feature a Drive Mode selector. Normal mode provides a blend of performance and efficiency that is suited to everyday driving, while Eco mode favors fuel economy. Sport mode increases powertrain and steering responsiveness, and for the ES300h, the IP changes from the hybrid power monitor to a tachometer. The ES300h adds an EV mode which allows short distance drives, at reduced speed, using only the power from the hybrid battery pack.

Suspension changes, a stiffer body and a quicker steering gear ratio deliver more precise handling in the new 2013 Lexus ES.

The front suspension employs opposite-wound coil springs to help enhance straight-line stability. Revised rear suspension geometry and improved shock absorber damping characteristics enhance ride comfort. The steering gear ratio has been reduced from 16.1:1 to 14.8:1 to help deliver a more responsive
and direct steering feel. Increased body rigidity is achieved through lightweight, high tensile strength steel, added bracing and more spot welds. Airflow is smoothed beneath the vehicle, improving stability and fuel economy, and reducing drag.

The ES will be equipped with standard 215/55R17 low rolling resistance tires on 17-inch alloy wheels.
The Lexus ES350 will offer optional high-gloss 17-inch wheels and, for the first time, 18-inch high-gloss alloy wheels.

2013 Kia Sorento Facelift Revealed

New Kia Sorento

Our week in the 2013 Sorento came not long after a week in a 2012 model. Both were front-drive EX models…one notch from the top of the line. Differences? The 2013 EX makes leather trim standard. The ’12 had a 2.4 liter four-cylinder, the ’13 had a 3.5 liter V6. Frankly, the four is smooth and powerful enough for most driving…and there’s a significant fuel economy difference: The four’s 22 city/32 highway drops to 20 city/26 highway with the V6. Not a big deal in town, but six fewer on the open road is a big drop.

Apart from more frequent $50 a tank fillups (at $3.45 a gallon) there’s not much not to like. Plenty of room for people and their things, a relatively quiet and smooth ride, carlike handling and a raft of features. Opt for the EX model and in addition to the aforementioned leather, you’ll get a six-speed automatic transmission, independent front and rear suspension, 5-spoke hyper-finish alloy wheels, a full complement of airbags and active headrests, anti-lock brakes, traction control, electronic stability control, downhill brake and hill-start assist control, tire pressure monitoring, fog lamps, heated outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, privacy glass and a rear spoiler.

Inside, there’s more: Dual-zone automatic climate control, power windows, locks and mirrors, UVO in-vehicle infotainment system with rear camera, USB, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, power driver’s seat with lumbar support, push-button start, cruise control, automatic light control, a tilt and telescoping steering column and interior accent illumination.

Base price for all that: $27,950. Which, if you haven’t been keeping up with Kia, sounds like a lot for the brand, but isn’t. And, in fact, is a bargain compared to direct competitors.

Our tester got loaded beyond the standard stuff, though: $2,000 for the Limited Package (navigation with Sirius Traffic), an air-cooled driver’s seat, memory driver’s seat and mirrors, power folding ourside mirrors and Homelink)…$3,400 for the Premium Package 2 (First Aid kit, Infinity surround sound audio system, heated front seats, power passenger seat, a 50/50 split folding third row seat, auto-dimming mirror and panoramic sunroof)…$65 for a rear bumper protector…$50 for a cargo net and $125 for a cargo cover.

Grand total, including $800 for freight and handling: $34,390. Again, your brain may have trouble putting the phrase “Thirty four thousand dollars” together with the name “Kia”. But try loading a competitor to that level and see what the bottom line is. And there’s Kia’s 10 year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, 5 year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty and 5 years/60,000 miles of roadside assistance. It’s a compelling package…and one you shouldn’t ignore if you’re shopping in this segment.

Next Generation 2014 BMW X5

New BMW X5

A prototype of the next-generation BMW X5 has been spied for the first time. These 2014 BMW X5 spy shots show the upcoming model will be sleeker, lighter, and more high-tech and efficient than the current X5 luxury SUV.

Like other recent BMW vehicles, the new X5's weight loss will be thanks to smarter design and the use of more aluminum and high-tech steel.

"Cutting weight is, after all, one of the best ways to get more efficiency out of a given vehicle while preserving or even enhancing performance, and both are important to BMW and X5 buyers," says Motor Authority. "Weight savings of up to 450 pounds over the current model are possible."

The new-generation X5 is expected to be built on the same platform underpinning the F10 5-Series platform, ensuring the X5's high-performance handling.

Powertrain options are likely to be an eight-speed automatic transmission paired with various turbocharged engine options, including inline six-cylinder and V-8s.

"A diesel version will also be available, likely even in the United States, with an evolution of the M Performance model coming to the current X5 range soon possible as well. An X5 M is possible, as well, though given small volumes, high costs, and low fuel economy, it may not see another generation," suggests Motor Authority.

There could also be a 2014 X5 ActiveHybrid. "...this model perhaps the best candidate for use of the turbocharged four-cylinder, since the electric hybrid drive system would help with low-end torque and the turbo four would deliver good cruising fuel economy. On the other hand, the same system used in the ActiveHybrid 5 might be a more natural fit," says Motor Authority.

The debut of the 2014 BMW X5 is still two years away so details and specifications have yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned for more on the upcoming BMW X5 luxury SUV.

BMW M3 Coupe Guerrilla images

German tuner, Cam Shaft, recently got their hands on a BMW M3 Coupe and true to their reputation as tuners extraordinaire, they gave the German sports car a little identity modification. In the end, the M3 Coupe Guerrilla was born.Starting with a matte space-gray metallic foil called a Platinum Wrapping Film, Cam Shaft took the task of reinventing the M3's sporty looks.

In addition to the foliation work, which by the way cost 2,500 ($3,100), Cam Shaft also installed a new front apron from Racing Dynamics, a new stainless steel exhaust system from Akrapovic, sills from Hamann, KW coil overs, and a new set of 19″ BBS-Le Mans rims. Inside, Cam Shaft treated the M3 Coupe's interior with a number of new carbon fiber components and aluminum pedals. There doesn't appear to be any performance modifications given to the M3 Coupe Guerrilla, but even in standard form, it still carries an impressive 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 420 horsepower.

DMC’s LaFerrari FXXR render looks mental

DMCs LaFerrari FXXR render looks mental

LaFerrari FXXR render by DMC 22.11.2013

Hypercar goes hardcore

Renowned tuner DMC has digitally conceived a more hardcore version of the LaFerrari wearing the "FXXR" suffix.

Asked by AutoBild to render a more outrageous version of the LaFerrari, DMC promptly responded with the FXXR which takes Ferrari's latest and greatest to a whole new level. They drew their inspiration from the firm's GTO, XX and FXX models to create an even more radical LaFerrari featuring two carbon fiber air intakes at the front angled at a "V" shape which extends the line of the big central air vent mounted on the hood.

The front bumper's corners now come with clear carbon fiber canards increasing downforce at higher speeds, while an air intake has been sculpted in the center of the bumper. DMC also envisioned the LaFerrari with vents near the headlights and with a clear carbon fiber wing at the back. The taillights now adopt a smoked look which can also be seen on the new exhaust system.

Behind the side windows there are two black winglets to provide more stability during hard accelerations. There's also a roof-mounted air intake, more air intakes on the doors, quick fuel filler and black cross-spoke wheels featuring a black finish.

Webber gets early release for new Porsche era

Webber gets early release for new Porsche era

Mark Webber with his 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, 650

Mark Webber will waste no time at all before leaping into his new Le Mans career.

News Limited newspapers say the Australian's Porsche era will begin on the day after Sunday's Brazilian grand prix.

Normally, F1 drivers remain under contract until the end of the calendar year, but the reports said Red Bull has given Webber, who has already had a seat fitting at Porsche's Weissach facility, "an early release".

"We are very lucky that Mark will join us one day after the formula one race in Sao Paulo," Porsche chief executive Matthias Muller confirmed.

"I met him last week when he had the seat fitting. We are very happy to have him," he said.

News Limited speculated that Webber's early release could have been helped by a new personal sponsorship deal between the 37-year-old and Red Bull, for whom he drove in F1 for the past seven years.

Muller said Webber will also get an early start to his Porsche testing duties: "I suppose it is in December," he revealed.

But before that, in Brazil, Webber will spend one more race alongside his ultra-successful teammate Sebastian Vettel.

On Thursday, the German ruled out righting the wrongs of the 'Multi-21' team orders affair by gifting Webber a farewell win.

"Mark is a sportsman and he doesn't want a win handed over to him," said Vettel.

"People tend to forget how successful we have been," he added. "We've been one of the strongest pairings in F1.

"Obviously we didn't have the best relationship on a personal level, but both of us have tried very hard to improve the car.

"The fact that he will not be around next year will surely be a loss for the team and a loss for myself.

"I've learned a lot from him and I can stand up straight and say that there have been many times and places where I've benefited from him. You could say the same thing the other way round," added Vettel.

Offer to buy embattled Nurburgring rejected

Offer to buy embattled Nurburgring rejected

Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive at the N rburgring 06.6.2013

One step forward, and one step back: the German automobile club ADAC is no longer in the running to buy the embattled Nurburgring.

We reported last week that 2013 race promoter ADAC, the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club, had submitted a non-binding offer to buy the fabled but insolvent circuit.

But Speed Week reports that ADAC's offer was only for the circuit, not the theme park and connected commercial area, which would be demolished.

"That's right," ADAC chief Peter Meyer told Bild newspaper.

"We have not been approved for the next step of the bidding process. We were told only that our offer was considered too low," he revealed.

Speed Week said ADAC's offer was for a 'double-digit million (Euro) sum'.

To be longer and wider

The next generation of the Volkswagen Passat (Sedan and Variant) has been spied for a second time featuring the production body.

Since Volkswagen has just started testing the all-new Passat, these prototypes are wearing a heavy amount of camouflage so we can't say a lot about its styling. What we do know is the new model will be longer and wider than the current version and as a result it will offer a more spacious cabin. It will adopt a slightly elongated wheelbase and should have a more angular design.

These prototypes seem to have a shorter front and longer rear overhang, a sloping roofline and what appears to be a prominent front grille flanked by big headlights. It will also feature a more sloping roofline and stylish taillights, while the interior is likely to be improved with more premium materials and several assistance and safety systems.

Riding on the MQB platform, the all-new Passat could be revealed at the next Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled for 2015, before going on sale shortly after its public debut.

Ultimate Street Edition Nissan GT-R

Nissan GT-R Ultimate Street Edition

A lot of people can become too solely infatuated with a car that produces 1,000 horsepower. But through all of this, it's also important to understand that if a car packs that much power under its hood, certain compromises have to be made to ensure that it can deliver the kind of power it's been given.

That's why it's no surprise that a lot of these 1,000-horsepower super cars are best left to be ridden on a race track than on an actual road.

Noted Nissan GT-R tuner Switzer Performance already has one of these models in its GT-R line-up – the R1K package – but now, the Oberlin, Ohio-based company has prepared a new program for Godzilla that comes packed with 1,000 ponies. It is also capable of being used as an everyday car. That's right, you can have your cake and eat it too.

The vehicle is called the Ultimate Street Edition, and it's without question, one of the meanest and road-friendly, 1,000-horsepower GT-R's you can get.

In order to achieve that output while retaining its road capabilities, Switzer fitted the GT-R with a plethora of modifications, none more so than to the Japanese sports car's VR38DETT 3.8-liter V6 engine, which is now capable of producing 1,000 horsepower on premium pump-gas. To gain all that horsepower, Switzer went to work on fitting the GT-R with Switzer-specific pistons, pins, rings, connecting rods, and specially-ground camshafts. The tuning firm also reprogrammed the ECU and added a stainless-steel performance exhaust, front mounted intercoolers, an upgraded cooling package, and a pair of liquid-cooled turbochargers that come with billet compressor wheels.

'Nano carbon' brake pads are also being offered, as are Switzer's lowering springs, a modified version of the car's launch control set-up and, last but not least, a new set of lightweight alloy wheels.

“For people who want a 1000+ horsepower car that they can drive comfortably every day, to the track or the office or the grocery store, on the highway or in bumper-to-bumper traffic, we've built this car,” says Tym Switzer, owner and founder of Switzer.

KTM 690 Duke

Posted on 11.20.2013 10:09 by Serafim , Sulthoni

Meet the 2014 KTM 690 Duke, a fast bike aimed at adrenaline-hungry riders. While designing the 690 Duke, KTM's engineers have focused on cutting the bike's weight as much as possible. Therefore, the motorcycle comes with a 9 kg lightweight tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel which is paired with a 4 kg lightweight, pin-jointed, die-cast swingarm. After this entire struggle the engineers have managed to obtain a dry weight of only 149.5 kg (without fuel), which is pretty impressive.

At the heart of the motorcycle lies a modern, 690 cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, spark-ignition, liquid-cooled engine. The unit develops a maximum power of 67 hp and is mated on a six speed, claw shifted transmission.

As far as suspensions are concerned, the KTM 690 Duke is equipped with front WP Suspension up side down forks and a rear WP Suspension shock absorber with Pro-Lever linkage.

Jaguar F-Type R Coupe

Posted on 11.20.2013 11:00 by Simona

Jaguar prepared a nice little surprise for us for this year's Los Angeles Auto Show.

We all knew Jag was going to unveil the coupe version of the recently launched F-Type, but the company decided to also offer a more powerful R version for those customers interested in a little bit more than just the base sports coupe.

The new F-Type R Coupe is offered as almost the coupe equivalent to the F-Type V8 S Roadster, but with a more powerful engine, a more aggressive look, an updated suspension, high-performance brakes and a revised interior. All this for just $99,000, which will make it a tough competitor in its segment.

Jaguar will distinguish the new F-Type R Coupe from the rest of the lineup by adding more aggressive bodywork, lots of carbon fiber, plus "R" logos placed on the grille and on the back end.

The new F-Type R Coupe will be put on sale in March 2014.

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo images

The Hyundai Veloster was new for 2012 and immediately drew attention with its unique three-door design. The new 2013 turbocharged version makes the car much faster and lots more fun.

Rivals for the turbocharged front-wheel-drive Veloster include the Volkswagen GTI, Civic Si, Mini Cooper/Clubman S, Beetle Turbo and Fiat 500 Abarth. Hyundai notes the Veloster, with such things as its three doors, is "purposefully differentiated from other core vehicles in Hyundai's lineup, with unique style and function and advanced technologies."

Hyundai hasn't become a major sales success without taking chances.

The turbocharger is the big news for the latest version of the Veloster. This turbo has a twin-scroll design for quicker response and more low-end torque. The engine also has dual continuously variable valve timing and an intercooler for better performance and fuel economy.

While the standard Veloster is fast enough for many folks, addition of a turbocharger significantly increases horsepower of the car's regular 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. It jumps from 138 to 201 horsepower. Torque also increases to 195 pound-feet from 123 pound-feet.

The added punch give the Veloster Turbo a sharp new personality, I found during a media preview of the car in La Jolla, Calif. The increased power and torque allow faster acceleration and much less shifting with the standard, slick six-speed manual transmission. The responsive six-speed automatic has a manual-shift mode.

Serious bumps and potholes cause jolts, but the sport suspension is generally supple. There's also sport speed-tuned steering. Handling is sharp, and the anti-lock all-disc braking system with electronic brake-force distribution inspires confidence. The brake pedal has a progressive action for smooth stops.

Helping keep the car on the road during difficult situations are electronic stability and traction controls.

The small engine has lots of punch for its size, but keep in mind the rigidly built Veloster only weighs approximately 2,800 pounds.

Estimated fuel economy is 26 miles per gallon in the city and 38 on highways-and only regular grade fuel is needed.

The Veloster with the six-speed manual transmission lists at $21,950 and at $22,950 with the automatic-without a $775 freight charge.

2013 Hyundai Elantra GT unveiled

2013 Hyundai Elantra GT

The basic guts of the Elantra GT are shared with its two siblings, including the solid axle rear suspension, but the whole package works so much more proficiently in the GT than the other two cars - like how Khloe and Kim Kardashian come from the same lineage despite their wildly different physiques. While the other two cars resist being pushed hard (and don't really prod the driver to do so), the Elantra GT is as comfortable motoring down the freeway as it is being grabbed by the scruff of its neck.

Hyundai had us drive the Elantra GT up and down a 5000 foot mountain pass, which did a good job of exposing both the highlights and the flaws that live within the car. The biggest impediment to going fast is the strange gap between second and third gear, no doubt a concession towards fuel economy. Running up and down the mountain at a spirited pace meant the car was often close to the rev limited in second. An upshift to third would bring the engine way out of the powerband, sapping whatever precious momentum we could extract out of the Elantra GT and its 148 horsepower 4-banger.

If you're willing to keep it in second and let the revs fly, the Elantra GT is immensely rewarding. The chassis is responsive in a way that the Veloster and Elantra Coupe could only dream of. The brakes remained firm fade free during the whole route and the chassis inspires a ton of confidence, allowing you to push the car harder than the other two Hyundais driven that week. The steering, long a sore spot for the Koreans, is much crisper than any front-drive Hyundai vehicle in recent memory.

There was a lot of hoopla over the Driver Selectable Steering Mode, a steering wheel mounted button that lets you adjust the weight and resistance of the electric power steering. Many of my program participants insisted that the Sport mode (which did feel great) was the only way to go. There is a noticeable difference in weight between Comfort, Normal and Sport, but feedback remains the same no matter what. It's ultimately a gimmick, though one that makes the driving experience better. It still can't quite match the Mazda3 in sheer driving pleasure; the steering is just a little bit duller, the chassis slightly less enthusiastic (even though the Hyundai is 150 lbs lighter). But there are other benefits that make the Elantra GT a serious contender.

The Elantra GT is an elegant, mature looking vehicle without being dowdy. The Mazda3 looks absolutely heinous. Despite its many charms, the Mazda's looks are enough to dissuade me from owning. The interior of the Elantra GT is also a much more pleasant place to be, with higher quality materials and a much more sophisticated design, which also manages to avoid being overly complex. The rear seats fold completely flat like a minivan, and the back seat is more spacious than one would expect. Up and down the mountain pass, with elevations reaching 5000 feet, the Elantra GT could handle whatever was dished out. Mid-corner bumps were absorbed gently without upsetting the car, and the brakes felt consistently strong despite substantial use. It was genuinely a joy to drive, despite being saddled with a gearbox that doesn't flatter the engine's modest output. The chassis is the real star of the show here, giving the driver lots of feedback, a high threshold for mistakes and the feeling that you're going much faster than you really are.

Our tester was the $21, 145 Elantra GT equipped with the Style Package., The extra $2,750 nets you a large panoramic roof, leather seats, a power driver's seat, 17-inch wheels and interestingly, stiffer rear springs. There were only a couple of base model Elantra GTs available at the event, so it was impossible to tell how much of an effect the Style Package has on handling.

Although the Elantra GT was sampled before the Veloster Turbo, not even the extra power and the supposedly sporty nature of the boosted hatch was enough to sway the decision.

It would be foolish to think that the Elantra GT will turn the tide on hatchback sales in the United States, but that doesn't mean that Hyundai's offering is any less competitive than the Focus, Mazda3 or even the Volkswagen Golf - which the Czech-built Elantra GT is arguably closest to in terms of overall character.

The Elantra GT wins not just on performance, but by offering an affordable yet mature looking proposition that works anywhere, whether it's a golf game with someone important, a first date or hauling mountain bikes or skis. There are no extra options, engines or equipment packages needed to extract maximum fuel economy, and even though it's a great value, you never feel like you've compromised on your vehicle due to your budget restrictions. The sedan and coupe versions should be this good.

Military-Inspired 2012 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition Unveiled

2012 Jeep Wrangler Freedom Edition

In the early stages of the Second World War, the vehicle we'd come to know as the Jeep Wrangler was born as a go-anywhere, general-purpose military scout vehicle. The Jeep became an iconic symbol of the U.S. military through World War II and into theaters including Korea and Vietnam.

Today, the Jeep is retired from military service, but there's no denying its born-from-conflict roots. In recognition of this, and to honor members of the U.S. military both past and present, Jeep is launching a special edition of the 2012 Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited in tribute.

Dubbed the Wrangler Freedom Edition, the model comes in red, white or blue paint, and sports a military-themed star graphic on the hood and rear quarter panels. Gracing each front fender is a star-themed emblem with the slogan "Oscar Mike," military jargon for "on the move."

The Freedom Edition's 17-inch wheels, as well as its grille and bumper inserts, are finished in Mineral Gray. Inside, black cloth seats sport the same "Oscar Mike" logo as the front fenders, and silver accent stitching is used for the steering wheel, door panels seats and armrests.

Based on the Sport trim level, Freedom Edition models start at $28,165 for a two-door Wrangler, and begin at $30,670 for a four-door Wrangler Unlimited variant. For each Freedom Edition model sold, Chrysler will donate $250 to charities for military families, including the Fisher House Foundation and the I Support Foundation.

Active and retired military members may even qualify for a $500 cash allowance, which means you're getting an even better deal on an iconic SUV, and supporting charities that support our military at the same time. We'd call that a win for everyone.
