Jeremy Clarkson says Top Gear trio 'could be back'

Jeremy Clarkson has hinted he, James May and Richard Hammond could return with
a new show.
Speaking at a charity
auction for Chipping Norton Lido for the first time since he was axed from BBC,
Clarkson said to the audience "now some of you know there used to be a program
called Top Gear. It was on the BBC". Before auctioning a Top Gear Kung Fu Stig T-shirt, "signed by a former presenter", he also added "we could be back somewhere else. Or
maybe even not somewhere else, who knows?"
No further details are
available at the moment, but about a month ago a report said James May and
Richard Hammond are not willing to film new Top Gear episodes without Clarkson.
As BBC executive reportedly commented, "there is a feeling that it is all of
them or none of them".
No quick fix for Renault piston fault - report
Red Bull Racing RB11 engine cover / XPB A fault with the piston design of Renault's 2015 engine has been identified, according to the French broadcaster Canal Plus.
Problems across both Renault-powered teams, Red Bull and Toro Rosso, marred the French marque's weekend in China last weekend.
Boss Cyril Abiteboul departed Shanghai saying he hoped a fix could be identified and put in place in time for Bahrain, despite the turnaround of mere days.
But the latest news is alarming, as Canal Plus reports that the issue is in fact a fundamental flaw with the actual piston.
Abiteboul is quoted as saying there can be "no solution within the next six weeks".
Ferrari technical director James Allison commented: "Problems with the power unit are the last thing you want, because the production time of the parts is so long."
As for improving the actual lagging performance of the engine, Abiteboul insisted Renault must be wise in spending its remaining 'tokens' this year.
"Engine technology," he said, "is not something you can change overnight after a bad race.
"We have a plan for the use of our tokens this year, so we should not rush headlong into decisions that may not be the best for the long term."
Interestingly, the heat appears to have gone out of Red Bull's earlier stinging criticism of Renault, as the parties knuckle down to improving in 2015.
"As Ferrari has shown, you can turn things around when you have clear goals and direction," team boss Christian Horner is quoted by Italy's Tuttosport.
"If you look at the facts, it is not a great moment for us," he acknowledged, "but Renault is a great company with capable people and a long history of success in formula one.
"At the moment something is not working, but we will help Renault to understand what the problems are -- at the moment this is the highest priority."

Land Rover has released full pricing details for the 2016
Evoque facelift commercialized in UK.
Presented last month in Geneva, the mildly facelifted Evoque
is scheduled to go on sale in Britain this September from 30,200. The
mid-cycle refresh has brought some subtle changes to the front bumper, front
grille, tailgate spoiler along with optional full LED headlights and three
fresh alloy wheel designs.
There's also a new seat look, an updated interior scheme
with revised colors and materials while the InControl Touch packs an 8-inch
touchscreen. The facelifted Evoque has also gained a Gesture Control function
which grants a hands-free opening of the tailgate.
Land Rover has decided to boost standard equipment by adding
power-folding mirrors, heated 8-way adjustable front seats, lane departure
warning, autonomous emergency braking, automatic headlights, rain-sensing
wipers and automatic climate control.
More importantly, the 2016 Evoque gets a new aluminum-made
Ingenium TD4 turbodiesel engine available in 150 PS (110 kW) and 180 PS (132 kW) versions.
The posh crossover can also be had with a powerful Si turbo gasoline engine
rated at 240 PS (177 kW) which enables the Evoque hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.6
seconds and top out at 135 mph (217 km/h).
Starting sometime next year, the Range Rover family will
gain a Cabrio
version and there's also a range-topping SVAutobiography
version being prepared with more high-end features on the inside.

BMW has announced those rumors about a sub-X1 model are
false as the company isn't working on another entry-level crossover.
Lately we've been hearing a lot of reports about a petite
crossover tentatively named Urban Cross
/ 1-Series
Sport Cross from BMW positioned below the X1 but it turns out these rumors
were fake. Speaking to Motoring at the X5 M and X6 M launch this week, BMW
Australia's head of product and market planning Shawn Ticehurst said it's
not going to happen as such a model would clash with MINI.
He did drop a few hints about a "four-door coupe" version of
the 2016 X1 and most likely the model he was referring to will be baptized "X2"
and will be similar in design to its bigger brothers, the X4 and X6. This news shouldn't
come as a surprise taking into account in June 2012 they registered the "X2" name while in November 2014 they also grabbed the "X2
Sport" nameplate.
As a final note, Shawn Ticehurst went on to say the next
generation BMW X3 is scheduled for 2018 reveal, possibly in January in Detroit or a couple of months later in Geneva.

Volkswagen T6 teased, debuts later today [video]
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released a new teaser video for the T6.
Set to be unveiled later today, the redesigned van follows in the footsteps of the Tristar concept and adopts a new front fascia with a slender grille that is flanked by LED-infused headlights. The van also boasts attractive alloy wheels, vertical LED taillights and an upgraded interior with a new dashboard.
Engine will be announced shortly but choices are expected to echo those offered in the Golf and Passat.

Our spies have sent us another batch of images with a
next-gen Opel Astra testing on public roads.
The compact five-door hatchback is showing us its headlights
which from a previous spy
photo set appeared to benefit from full LED technology. Opel is still
keeping a full-body camouflage on their Astra K prototypes, but even so it's
easy to notice the sleeker design enhanced by a prominent character line at the
door handle level. Chances are the Monza
concept's styling will rub off onto the new Astra so expect a sharper design.
It appears to have roughly the same size as the outgoing
model, but underneath the skin it's an entirely different car as the new Astra
will make the switch to the D2XX platform and word on the street says it will
lose as much as 100 kg (220 lbs). There's been a debate about the rear
suspension, with some saying it will be upgraded to an independent
configuration but lately we've been hearing it will use a revised Watts arrangement.
Opel has allegedly decided to drop the sexy three-door GTC
coupe model which means the next
generation Astra will be offered only in hatchback, sedan and estate versions.
2017 will be the year when a new OPC version will be out with around 280 bhp
(209 kW) from a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbo.
The Frankfurt Motor Show in September will probably be the
venue where Opel will finally show us the new Astra hatchback. We remind you that it won't
be produced at all in Germany as the model will be built in Gliwice, Poland
and Ellesmere Port, UK.

Mini Reveals Augmented Vision
When it comes to innovation in the auto industry, there are quite a few technologies out there that show huge potential. One of those is augmented reality, whereby digital forms overlay the real world to create an enhanced perspective to serve a specific purpose. One new player in this space is Mini, which will bring its "Augmented Vision" concept to the Auto Shanghai show later this month, offering a new high-tech way to navigate, communicate, park, and stay safe.
"Mini Augmented Vision gives an insight into how intelligent connectivity between a Mini car and eyewear into which relevant content is projected might work in the future," says Dr. J rg Prei inger, project-manager at BMW Group research and technology, in a press release. "Working with several Qualcomm companies, we have created an interlinked system and augmented reality eyewear with a characteristic Mini design that revolutionize the experience both in and outside the vehicle."
Both customizable and interactive, the AR eyewear projects images and information into the driver's view while keeping other cars and road elements visible. Features include directions when looking for your car in a crowded parking lot, navigation arrows "on" the road leading to your intended destination, highlighted points of interest (such as open parking spaces), vehicle speed and posted speed limits, audible text messaging, "transparent" body panels that eliminate blind spots, and parking cameras.
With this new concept, Mini joins the ranks of several other companies in exploring the possibilities of augmented reality for automotive purposes. JLR, for example, has proposed the idea of transparent body panels before, while Pioneer proposed AR navigation concepts as early as 2011.

BMW Will Put The OLED Taillights Into Production Starting With The M2
Light Emitting Diodes, or LEDs, have become utterly prevalent in the automotive industry these days, but BMW is reaching to the next step with OLED technology. Previewed in its M4 Light Concept earlier in 2015, BMW says it's ready to use OLEDs in its next M-division vehicle.
The new acronym stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes and will likely replace the current crop of LED technology. It's already starting in the television sector, with LG producing the worlds' first OLED TV, which also happens to be one of the thinnest TVs on the market.
The system works by placing thin films of organic material - in this case carbon-based materials - between two conductors. The super small structure means BMW designers can incorporate intricately detailed designs into lighting elements. It's that super small structure that lends OLED its attractiveness. What's more, the OLED bulbs are eco-friendly, containing only trace amounts of Iridium, a non-toxic heavy metal.
As for the next M vehicle, BMW is set to launch its 2016 M2 within the coming months. It's a sure bet its rear end will be graced with OLED taillamps. As for the rest of the car, expect a smaller, meaner version of the M4 Coupe with plenty of power on hand and a fierce appetite for corners.

MGM highlights their fleet of CNG-powered Cadillac XTS limos [video]
MGM Resorts has released a new promotional video which highlights their fleet of specially-designed Cadillac XTS limos which are powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).
Billed as the first-ever Cadillac XTS' to be converted to CNG, the limos are 22 feet long and have a custom interior with premium leather upholstery and "hand-selected" elements to "create the ultimate guest experience."
The company was coy on specifications but the cars have a 3.6-liter V6 engine which has been converted to run on compressed natural gas. This change enables them to produce approximately one-ninth of the emissions as the previous Lincoln Town Car limousines.
BMW i3 goes up for sale on Amazon in Japan

Amazon has helped to change the way we shop and BMW is looking to tap into that by listing the i3 for sale on the popular website.
Currently available on Amazon Japan (Amazon.co.jp), customers can order the i3 or range-extended i3 at the click of a button. Unfortunately, choices are limited as buyers can only select between five-year lease and loan programs as well as six exterior colors. The model also come with an assortment of pre-selected options including LED headlights, a "loft" interior and 19-inch alloy wheels.
BMW didn't have much to say about the decision to sell on Amazon but noted its part of their push to provide new services geared towards improving their customer experience.

Kia rules out an Optima Wagon

Kia hinted at the possibility of an Optima wagon when they unveiled the Sportspace concept at the Geneva Motor Show but it now appears the family friendly model has been ruled out.
Speaking to Autoguide, Kia Motors America vice president of product planning, Orth Hendricks, said "We looked at it. It's a beautiful car and obviously it's a big deal in Europe mainly because they love estates over there." However, the company determined the model would overlap with the Sorento and wouldn't attract enough buyers to justify the production costs.
While the news is unfortunate, the redesigned Optima sedan will go on sale in the United States later this year and be offered with three different engines.

The Porsche 918 Spyder has been sold out for months but that hasn't stopped the company from releasing a new promotional video for the high-performance roadster.
In the latest clip, we get behind the wheel with Porsche 918 head instructor Matthias Hoffsummer as he sets an unofficial production car lap record of 1:38:02 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia.
While the video doesn't have any commentary, the 918 Spyder has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 4.6-liter V8 engine, two electric motors and a 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. This setup enables the model to produce a combined maximum output of 887 PS (652 kW) 1,280 Nm (944 lb-ft) of torque. In terms of performance, the Porsche 918 Spyder can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 345 km/h (214 mph).

Nissan X-Trail Hybrid launched in Japan with 2.0-liter engine and electric motor

Nissan is introducing a hybrid version of the X-Trail
crossover in Japan which will effectively go on sale May 13.
It looks virtually the same as the regular model but comes
with vertical LED fog lights and "pure drive hybrid" badges while the central
display between the two instrument gauges now shows typical hybrid information.
The X-Trail Hybrid uses a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine combined
with an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery pack and an XTRONIC transmission.
The conventional engine delivers 147 HP (108 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 207 Nm (153
lb-ft) of torque at 4,400 rpm while the electric motor generates 41 HP (30 kW)
and an instant torque of 160 Nm (118 lb-ft).
Compared to a regular X-Trail, the Hybrid model has 75%
fewer NOx and NMHC (non-methane hydrocarbons) emissions and has a fuel
consumption of 20.6 km/L (48.4 mpg US or 4.8 liters / 100 km) in the JC08
cycle.
It comes as standard with a Forward Emergency Braking system
which will be offered on all JDM-spec Nissan models starting this fall. Other
changes compared to a regular X-Trail include a regenerative braking system,
aerodynamically-optimized floor and low-rolling resistance tires to cut fuel
consumption even further.
Prices kick off at 2,804,760 JPY (about $23,400) for the
two-wheel drive version and rise to 3,240,000 JPY (about $27,000) for the 4WD
model in Black Xtreamer-X guise.

to create the C-XJ, a hypothetical concept of a future XJ model.
Italdesign Giugiaro introduced the elegant GEA
concept last month at the Geneva Motor Show and now TC decided
to use some of the styling cues for a digital interpretation of a concept previewing
a future Jaguar XJ featuring a more sloped roofline and a wraparound rear
window. The front end is derived from the F-Type while the back hosts interconnected
slim taillights spreading across the entire width.
Jaguar is currently putting the finishing touches on the XJ
facelift so it will be a while until a new generation will be out. It is believed
the next-gen XJ will spawn a second
body style with a higher roofline to grant a more spacious cabin suitable for
the Chinese market. There are also some reports indicating an XJ
Coupe will be introduced as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe competitor.

Hennessey's upcoming Cadillac CTS-V aims to be the fastest four-door in the world

Hennessey has released the first details about their upcoming tuning program for the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V.
Designed to be "world's fastest four-door sedan," the CTS-V will be stripped of its supercharger and be equipped with twin turbos. The 6.2-liter V8 engine will also receive forged aluminum pistons, a custom crankshaft and ported cylinder heads. Other highlights include a high-performance fueling system, an electronic boost controller, an air-to-air intercooler, K&N air filters and a stainless steel sports exhaust system.
Thanks to these modifications, the engine will produce 1,000 bhp (745 kW). Hennessey estimates this will enable the car to hit a top speed approaching 240 mph (386 km/h).
Production will be limited to 24 units for the 2016 model year but there's no word on pricing.
If that sounds like overkill, the company is also working on a slightly tamer package which will enable the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine to produce between 750-800 bhp (559- 596 kW).
