Watch Ferrari F40 smoking tires and doing donuts [video]

The Legend!

A new video from the TheSUPERCARDRIVER team shows us a yellow Ferrari F40 racing against a Porsche 9ff Turbo and performing smoky donuts on an airport track.

The F40 is still considered as one of the greatest supercars ever made. It has a 2.9-liter biturbo V8 engine with 478 HP (352 kW). The Pininfarina designed body features panels made of kevlar, carbon fiber and aluminum for strength and low weight.

The 1,100 kg (2,425 lb) Italian machine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0–62 mph) for 3.8 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 324 km/h (201.4 mph).

Volkswagen eyeing five-year life cycles - report

Volkswagen eyeing five-year life cycles - report

2015 Volkswagen Jetta facelift [14th Apr, 2014]

Facelifts would come every three years

Volkswagen Group of America CEO Michael Horn has revealed his desire to speed up the introduction of new and facelifted models.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Horn said redesigned models would be launched everything five years and they would be given a facelift after three years. This is significantly faster than the current system which sees new models introduced after seven years and facelifts after four years.

According to Horn, "We’re working to shorten the life cycle of the products to bring more new features and design elements, in terms of facelifts, to the market quicker." He went on to say the plan makes sense and could help to improve sales.

While Horn is upbeat, the shorter lifecycles haven't been approved by the company's board as of yet. Even if executives sign off on the plan, nothing would go into effect until 2017 at the earliest.

Mysterious Lamborghini Gallardo prototype spied in Italy

Mysterious Lamborghini Gallardo prototype spied in Italy

Lamborghini Gallardo Squadra Corsa spy photo 30.7.2013 / Supercarteam

Might be a new special edition

We're eagerly awaiting the Lamborghini Gallardo successor, but the company appears to be preparing another special edition of their aging supercar.

The Supercarteam managed to snap a handful of photos of a mysterious prototype they're calling the Gallardo Squadra Corsa. Little is known about the model but the website indicates it could be a facelifted version of the Super Trofeo Stradale.

Nothing is official but the camouflage suggests the model will come equipped with a new front bumper and revised side skirts. We can also see a prominent rear wing and a sporty rear diffuser.

Interestingly, the model bears a resemblance to the Gallardo GT3 Squadra Corse which was jointly-developed with Reiter Engineering. This could imply the Squadra Corsa name is a bit of a misnomer but hopefully we'll find out soon enough.

Mercedes teases the Silver Arrow of the Seas [video]

The S-Class of luxury yachts

Mercedes has announced plans to introduce a luxury yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

Dubbed the "Silver Arrow of the Seas," the 14 meter (46 feet) long Gran Turismo combines the "typical design features of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars with innovations that were previously unknown in the boatbuilding industry."

The model was created with the assistance of Mercedes designers and promises to feature "innovative versatility and intelligent use of space." Mercedes also revealed the yacht is suitable for day excursions but also has sleeping quarters for an undisclosed number of people.

The boat will be built by Silver Arrow Marine and promises to be a "new class of motor yacht" for a "new class of owner."

A design study was recently presented at the Mercedes-Benz Style exhibition at the Porto Montenegro marina, so expect to learn more in the coming weeks.

Video: Jay Leno Reviews Steve McQueen's 1956 Jaguar XKSS

width="460" height="370" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/4Ai0uSj_OVE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

Although enthusiasts regard the E-Type as the most iconic and beautiful Jaguars ever built, I think there's at least one other Jag that can match its distinction. I'm talking about the XKSS, a limited-edition, two-seat roadster based on the D-Type race car.

My reasoning is pretty much simple here. The XKSS has the gorgeous looks of the 1950s Jaguars, the racing heritage of the Le Mans-winning D-Type, and a track-prepped structure coming straight from the company's motorsport division. Add the fact that Jag built only 16 of these sports cars, and you'll understand why the XKSS is a coveted and expensive collectible.

The XKSS also benefits from an association with famed American actor Steve McQueen, who owned a British Racing Green-pained example and drove it around Los Angeles for years. Now resting its wheels in the Peterson Automotive Museum, McQueen's Jag just took a trip to Jay Leno's garage, the place where the world's greatest vehicles are taken to be reviewed and showcased.

But unlike other cars that have passed through his garage, the XKSS seems to have mesmerized Leno, as the TV host can't stop praising the roadster enough throughout the 20-minute episode. Just hit the play button and you'll find out what we mean.

McLaren CEO Talks About the Future P13 and P15 Supercars

The McLaren P13 is arriving sooner than we thought. While we already know that McLaren plans to put the P13 up for sale in September 2015, recent details have emerged surrounding the sports car's official unveiling and price tag. The P13 will debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show with a $210,000 price tag.

A report from Edmunds confirmed these new details surrounding the British automaker's new entry-level sports car. Speaking with McLaren Managing Director Mike Flewitt, the auto site managed to confirm the company's plans for the P13.

For one, the P13 'code' won't be used as the official production model of the sports car. Also, it will carry a similar size to the McLaren 650S and will have the same mid-engine, two-seat setup within a carbon-fiber body.

But according to Flewitt, the two McLarens will still be completely unique from each other, despite the shared components. "It's difficult to style mid-engine cars to look different, not least for cooling reasons; side-mounted radiators dictate a lot of style," he explained.

As far as the engine is concerned, the P13 will use the same 3.8-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine as the 650S. The only difference is that McLaren will detune the former's V-8 powertrain to somewhere between 400 to 500 horsepower, creating a 0-to-60-mph sprint time of about four seconds - a second slower than the 650S. Likewise, top speed is about 185 mph for the P13, compared to the 207-mph top speed of the 650S.

The McLaren P13 is expected to compete with the likes of the Ferrari California T, the Audi R8 V10, and the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

In addition to the news about the P13, Flewitt also talked about another future McLaren: the P15.

Contrary to previous rumors, the P15 will not be the replacement for the P1. Instead, the supercar, which will cost $500,000 to $600,000, will sit just above the 650S and launch in 2017.

That should still create a wide space between all of McLaren's models and its flagship supercar - the P1 - which features the very best of McLaren technology to go with an output of 903 horsepower and 1,100 pound-feet of torque and a price of $1.15 million.

New Chevrolet Spark due in 2015, Sonic / Aveo delayed - report

2013 Chevrolet Aveo RS 15.07.2013 / autowp.ru

Both will be built in South Korea

The Chevrolet Spark and Sonic (aka Aveo) are relatively new in the United States but the cars have been on sale in international markets for a few years. As a result, General Motor is gearing for the production of the next-generation of models.

According to South Korean labor union spokesman Choi Jong-hak, the next-generation Spark will go into production in early 2015. The Aveo, on the other hand, has been pushed back to 2016 from its original launch date of late 2015.

General Motors declined to comment on the report but Jong-hak said the information was given to union negotiators during wage talks last week. Unfortunately, there's no word on what we can expect but we should learn more in the coming years.

McLaren open to a deeper partnership with Honda - report

2013 McLaren MP4-12C 07.06.2012

Companies could sign a bilateral technical arrangement

Honda and McLaren are reportedly considering a broader partnership than their previously announced Formula 1 engine supply deal.

Speaking to Autocar, McLaren F1 boss Martin Whitmarsh said the current deal is a "pure Formula 1 contract but we’ve already been looking at automotive technology and we’re sharing that very openly." He went on to say "Our road car strategy, at the moment, has no other automotive partner and Honda would be a good place to collaborate.”

Whitmarsh declined to go into specifics but speculation suggests the companies could sign a bilateral technical arrangement which would benefit road-going models from both automakers.

While a broader partnership sounds tantalizing Whitmarsh cautioned any benefits, from the proposed tie-up, would be several years off.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Vision Gran Turismo leaked

Volkswagen Golf GTI Vision Gran Turismo leaked

Volkswagen Golf GTI Vision Gran Turismo leaked

Will be featured in Gran Turismo 6

The Volkswagen Golf GTI Vision Gran Turismo has leaked to the web ahead of its official unveiling tomorrow morning.

Accidently posted by Auto Express, the pictures reveal the car is a stylish roadster that features an aggressive front fascia with slender headlights. We can also see a ventilated hood, a unique roll bar and a distinctive twin cockpit that recalls the Lamborghini Concept S. The aggressive styling continues out back as there's a center-mounted dual exhaust system, a carbon fiber rear diffuser and a massive rear wing.

There's no word on what powers the concept but the standard Golf GTI has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 220 PS (161 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque.

2016 Opel / Vauxhall Astra spied up close

2016 Opel Astra spy photo / Automedia

Should be introduced sometime next year

Our clandestine photographers have snapped some new pictures of the 2016 Opel / Vauxhall Astra.

Set to be introduced sometime next year, the 2016 Astra hatchback has a familiar design but appears to adopt a revised front fascia which could borrow some cues from the Monza concept. The déjà vu design continues out back as the only noticeable differences are door-mounted mirrors and a smaller tailgate-mounted spoiler. Despite the relatively minor changes, the model appears slightly larger than its predecessor so there could be a more accommodating cabin.

Opel has remained relatively quiet about the model but it will reportedly ride an updated version of the Delta II platform. However, the hatchback could use a variety of lightweight components to reduce its weight by up to 100 kg (220 lbs).

Engine options remain unconfirmed but Opel is planning to introduce 13 new engines by 2016 and some of them will undoubtedly be offered in the new Astra.

Mercedes E-Class

The E-Class has long been a staple in Mercedes' lineup, but even if its stature is firmly entrenched, the current model has struggled to keep up with more popular Mercedes models. It doesn't help that the current E-Class has been described as undersized and worse, overpriced. But through its misgivings, Mercedes is promising to make amends with the next-generation E-Class coupe and cabriolet models, which appear to be getting that all-encompassing upgrade that the model has needed in quite some time.

Set to be launched in 2017, the new E-Class coupe and cabriolet models will be markedly different from the current model. According to CAR, the two sporty models of the E Class family will receive all-new hardware from its saloon big brother, while also getting a new technologically forward interior and a fresh lineup of straight-six engines.

With rivals like the Audi A6 and the BMW 5 Series feting their well-deserved time in the spotlight, it's become increasingly important for Mercedes to catch up with a model that can compete with its rivals. For now, the E-Class remains a viable option, but not necessarily a top-of-the-line choice.

But once the new E-Class coupe and cabriolet models arrive in 2017, the expectation is that Mercedes will have a model that can finally stare down its rivals and not even flinch for a second.

Ayrton Senna's F1 Car and Kart Will be Offered in New Gran Turismo 6 DLC

To this day, a lot of people still remember Ayrton Senna as the greatest Formula One driver in history. That statement is all the more impressive considering that it's been 20 years since Senna died in a horrific car crash. But even if he isn't with us anymore, everybody who appreciated and admired his skill behind the wheel of a race car continues to honor his legacy.

Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC is one of those giving Senna that kind of respect by launching a new downloadable content that pays homage to the life, achievements, and legacy of the Brazilian great. The Ayrton Senna Tribute pack, which will be made available exclusively for Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3, will allow gamers to relive the life of Senna though some of his greatest achievements on the race track.

Among the features of the new in-game content include two race cars Senna drove in his long and illustrious racing career: a DAP go-kart and a Lotus 97T, the same race car the Brazilian drove in just his second season in Formula One. Apart from the two race cars, the content will also include new race courses - Monza 1985 and Brands Hatch 1985 - as well as challenges for gamers to beat some of the legend's best lap times in those courses.

The pack is arguably one of the most comprehensive video game content attributed to Ayrton Senna. Deservedly so, too, because other than Michael Schumacher, there's no Formula One driver in history that continues to be universally regarded and admired like the great Ayrton Senna.

2015 Mercedes-Benz MLC spied undergoing testing

2015 Mercedes-Benz MLC spied undergoing testing

2015 Mercedes-Benz MLC spy photo 31.07.2013 / S. Baldauf/SB-Medien

To rival BMW X6

The Mercedes-Benz MLC has been spied wearing the ML-Class skin while undergoing testing.

It's been a while since we last heard about the MLC so these spy shots come at the right time. Set to rival the BMW X6, the MLC will be out sometime in 2015 and will be interesting to see how this criticized yet popular body style is being envisioned by Mercedes-Benz.

We know so far it will ride on a modified ML-Class platform, hence these mules which might tempt you to say they are regular MLs. However, upon a closer inspection you will notice both front and rear axles are wider, while the chassis underneath seems to be a bit lower at the front section.

The car will allegedly be manufactured at a Mercedes-Benz factory in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where Daimler is investing 350M USD to create 400 new jobs to match the extra production. This is where they currently make the ML and GL models which will be joined next year by the new C-Class. The company decided last year to stop producing the peculiar R-Class at this plant.

Chances are a preview concept of the MLC will be shown next year before the production version arrives in 2015.

The GTS SK II Sporty Drive TU Supercharger system gives 650 hp / 478 kW at 7800 rpm and a torque of 630 Nm 3900 rpm. The BMW M3 GTS will sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.1 seconds, while 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) takes 11.8 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 200.7 mph (323 km/h).

The package can be complemented by 20-inch SILVERSTONE CS forged alloys with Michelin tires priced at 7.437,00 (net) and the G-POWER ceramic breaking system for the front axle is 14.460,00 (net), respectively 11.778,00 (net) for the rear axle.

Skoda planning hotter Octavia RS with 280 PS - report

Skoda planning hotter Octavia RS with 280 PS - report

2013 Skoda Octavia RS 12.07.2013

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 130 RS

Czech media is reporting Skoda is currently developing a more powerful version of the Octavia RS set for a 2015 release.

Next year Skoda will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its most important rally car, the 130 RS, and they could do it by introducing a limited edition Octavia RS packing 280 PS (206 kW). Output will probably be provided by a Golf R-sourced 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine but detuned by 20 PS (15 kW).

Unlike the range-topping AWD Golf, the Octavia RS 280 is expected to retain the front-wheel drive layout and will also probably feature a stiffer suspension setup and bespoke alloy wheels.

It will likely be built in limited numbers and should be more expensive than the Octavia RS but still cheaper than the Volkswagen Golf R just like all Skoda models are compared to the equivalent VW.

Retro-flavored Huet Brothers coupe to be based on next-gen Mazda MX-5

Retro-flavored Huet Brothers coupe to be based on next-gen Mazda MX-5

2014 Huet Brothers HB Coupe Road Racer 13.9.2012 [13th Sep, 2012]

21 orders already received

Huet Brothers co-founder Paul told Dutch media the Coupe will be based on the next generation Mazda MX-5.

Back in September 2012 we saw Huet Brothers' HB Coupe which was supposed to enter production this year. However, since the model was based on the outgoing Mazda MX-5, the Dutch specialty marque has now decided to wait for the next Miata to come out in order to utilize the new platform. In addition, to kick off production they need 40 orders and so far they received only 21.

Since it will be based on the upcoming next-gen Mazda MX-5, the Huet Brothers Coupe will utilize the SKYACTIV-CHASSIS so it should shave off 100+ kg (220 lbs) compared to the previous version. Moreover, the vehicle will likely feature carbon fiber body panels which will allow the coupe to tip the scales at less than 1,800 lbs (816 kg).

Expect the production-ready Coupe to be unveiled in 2015 since the new Miata will probably see the light of day towards the end of this year.

Two-year-old kid steals father's Mercedes-Benz wagon and crashes it

Two-year-old kid steals fathers Mercedes-Benz wagon and crashes it

2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon Estate

Happened in Berlin

An adventurous two-year-old child stole his father's Mercedes-Benz wagon and as you would imagine it all ended with a crash.

In February we posted a couple of stories about a ten-year-old kid from Norway who initially stole the family car and a week later he did the same thing with a relative's car. If you were impressed by those stories, wait until you hear what a much smaller boy from Berlin did.

A two-year-old toddler grabbed the keys of a silver Mercedes-Benz wagon from his father while he was sleeping and decided to go for a joyride. He was smart enough to grab a stool to use it in order to reach the car's controls and he actually drove off with the manual gearbox-fitted car that was left by the father in first gear. Needless to say, he was able to unlock the car using the remote control key fob.

Witnesses say they spotted a silver estate car "shoot out of its parking space and hit a post", but thankfully the child didn't suffer any injuries.

How Ferrari Could Make Billions and Kill Itself in Five Quick Years

Ferrari will have five new cars to release in the next five years. And that number doesn't include special editions, one-offs or anything like that. Doesn't that sound super amazing?!

Well it does sound cool, but the news is not as big as it sounds. Ferrari has been on a yearly update schedule for quite a while now. That is simply their main business plan. Every year we get a revised model, and every four years, that model gets a heavy update. So we had things like the 599 GTB that became the 599 GTO. For the current lineup, we got the California, then the 458, the FF came after that, and now we have the F12 Berlinetta. Then the cycle began its repeat with this year's California T, the first major refresh. Next year should see a faster, modified version of the 458 arrive.

Ferrari is also still enforcing its 7,000-car maximum production limit, so there won't be any more available than there already are. I think the really big takeaway from the announcement was the fact that Ferrari said they are still exclusively using V-8 and V-12 engines. There were rumors of something like a forced induction V-6 in a potential 458 update, so those are now basically dead. Ferrari also is not going to heavily invest into hybrid systems until the tech reaches a level they deem satisfactory.

As cool as the announcement of a new lineup of Ferrari's seems, it's actually just business as usual.

But what if Ferrari didn't do business as usual? What if Ferrari decided it wanted to dramatically increase sales, and didn't care so much about its brand prestige and message? It worked wonders for Porsche with models like the Cayenne.

Hit the break to see our self-destructing, five-year Ferrari plan; brand prestige be damned.

Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

Although the Cadillac CTS Sedan arrived with a brand new face at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, its performance-oriented cousins have yet to receive the updated look.

The entire CTS-V lineup, consisting of sedan, coupe and wagon models, charged into 2014 without major modifications, with Cadillac hoping to lure customers from BMW or Audi with more horsepower for less bucks.

That won't change much for the first half of the 2015 model year, at least not as far as the CTS-V is concerned, as the manufacturer opted to end the current-generation model with a special edition two-door that will be available in the second half of 2014.

Only 500 of these cars will be built and sold with a number of exclusive features to complement the host of luxury amenities already offered with the CTS-V Coupe. The special edition model will provide passage between the current-generation version and the brand-new coupe that's scheduled to break cover next year.

BMW R75/7 by Clutch Custom

Clutch Custom is a Paris based company specialized on modifying motorcycles. The man behind this company is named Willie Knoll and its latest creation is a custom BMW R75/7.

The bike looks impressive and we'll have to admit that Mr. Knoll find the perfect balance between shapes, colors and components to give to this iconic model a fairly unique appearance.

Unlike the original model, the Clutch Custom version has a more minimalist style which makes it look more like a modern bike than a classic one.

The motorcycle benefited from a comprehensive list of upgrades and almost every component is fresh. The attention to detail is incredible and the catchiest elements are the blue fuel tank and the stylish brown leather seat.

The motorcycle's frame was lowered at the back end with 4cm, while the fork and the rake angle were also slightly modified. These tweaks give the motorcycle a sportier appearance and work great with the rest of the modifications.

We also need to send a shout at the classy rims that have been powder coated black, with black spokes and stainless nipples. The rims are shod in Coker diamond tires - 19/400 Front and 18/450 Rear.

LV One Slip-On Exhaust

It is not an easy decision when it comes to making the purchase of an aftermarket exhaust. The smartest solution is to make a complete research before you make your final decision or to go the easiest way and choose a model that was especially developed for your bike.

If you are a BMW R1200GS rider, LeoVince USA makes your job easier, with its new LV One slip-on exhaust which is especially developed for the 2013 R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure. Compared to the stock exhaust, the LV One is slightly lighter and also comes with a removable EVO II sound insert that gives you the possibility to adjust the tone and lowers the dB levels.

Video: BAC Mono vs BAC Mono at Spa-Francorchamps

Simona

Spa-Francorchamps is one of the most challenging motor-racing circuits you will find in the Formula One Belgian Grand Prix. It measures 4.352 miles and features 20 turns. The current record at the track is held by Sebastian Vettel who lapped it back in 2009 in 1:47.263.

This challenging circuit was the perfect place for the BAC Mono to prove what it is capable of. This test comes just a few days after the Mono managed to smash Top Gear's test track record with a time of 1:14.3, thereby bettering the times of all but the 720-horsepower Pagani Huayra.

The two BAC Monos running at Spa were driven by Ron Simons, who was almost unbeatable in wet conditions at Spa for years and TV personality Sabine Schmitz.

Check out the video to see which of the two managed to handle Mono the best.

BMW M5 oversteers, nearly hits the crowd at a car event [video]

Nice car nonetheless

The driver of the BMW M5 E60 from the video above lost control and nearly hit the onlooking crowd while showing off at a recent auto event.

Luckily, nobody got hurt and the event continued untroubled. Hopefully, next time the man behind the wheel will make sure the front wheels are straight before trying to impress the crowd.

Take a look for yourself at the video, uploaded to YouTube by the JEWETHE team. The action begins at 1:21 mins.

To adopt an evolutionary design

A prototype of the second generation Audi Q7 was spied recently on the Nürburgring circuit in Germany.

The range-topping Audi SUV was caught on camera yet again and just like before the prototype was fully camouflaged both inside and out. In one of the pictures we get to see the car at the test center with the boot open showing the taillights are integrated in the tailgate as they are on the current model. However, the boot sill appears to sit slightly lower which should provide an easier load/unload process.

Audi will not alter the Q7's design too much as the new model will adopt an evolutionary approach but expect to find a more angular tailgate and a slightly shorter rear overhang. Also part of the package will be LED-infused headlights and a prominent front grille together with bigger air intakes.

The 2015 Audi Q7 will utilize the MLB Evo platform and could lose up to 363 kg (800 lbs). Don't expect any surprises in terms of engine lineup but there could be a small 4-cylinder 2.0-liter TDI for the entry-level model along with a more frugal plug-in hybrid derivative offered alongside the usual 6- and 8-cylinder gasoline and diesel motors.

Audi previously said the all-new Q7 will come out before the end of 2015 but some reports indicate it will actually happen this year.

Honda S660 to be built in Japan starting 2015 - report

Honda S660 to be built in Japan starting 2015 - report

Honda S660 concept at Tokyo Motor Show 20.11.2013 [20th Nov, 2013]

To be built in Yokkaichi

Based on a report coming from Japan, Honda has apparently decided to put the S660 concept into production.

It was November 2013 when Honda unveiled a spiritual successor for its legendary Beat kei car at the Tokyo Motor Show and now it seems they made up their mind to start assembling the vehicle at home in Japan at the Yokkaichi factory. Hopefully the production version will keep the concept's design intact as it was a very pretty little roadster drawing its styling cues from the EV-STER concept.

The Honda S660 is programmed for a 2015 market launch and will have to compete with another resurrected popular kei car, the Daihatsu Copen. There are also some rumors about a Suzuki Cappuccino reboot for 2016 so we might see more of these models but chances are the automakers will offer them only in Japan.

Next-gen Skoda Fabia arriving in Paris this October, sedan comeback considered

Next-gen Skoda Fabia arriving in Paris this October, sedan comeback considered

Skoda Fabia Reaction 26.07.2013

RS version axed

The third generation of the Skoda Fabia has been confirmed for an October debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

To the surprise of many, the next-gen Fabia will retain the current model's underpinnings and will not ride on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform which was used for the Octavia. However, the car will get a whole new exterior and interior derived from latest VAG products and will be offered with just about the same engines found in the facelifted Polo.

Upon launch it will be available in the usual hatchback and wagon body styles but Skoda is also analyzing the prospects of bringing back the sedan although we are not sure where it will fit in the Czech automaker's lineup since they already have the Rapid.

Skoda Australia director Michael Irmer reconfirmed the company's intentions to drop the range-topping RS version and instead focus on the Monte Carlo editions which although come with the same engines as the standard versions, at least they feature a sportier appearance both inside and out.

Sales of the third-gen Skoda Fabia should kick off towards the end of the year or early 2015.
