Mercedes SLK 250 CDI Diesel Specs

Mercedes SLK 250 CDI Diesel Specs SLK 250 CDI 1

Having a sports roadster powered with a diesel engine is kinda like having a wife with a mustache. That's not the case with the new Mercedes SLK 250 CDI though.

You see this 2.2 liter unit they'e put in the SLK is mainly designed for driving fun. And it just happens to be so economical.

Let us give you some numbers. This engine makes 150 kW or 204 PS, does 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, and can reach top speed of 243 km/h or about 150 mph. So it's definitely not a pig. Still, it has an average fuel consumption of 4.9 liter per 100 km. So your fun behind the wheel lasts longer.

What's more, the 2.2 diesel unit makes an enormous 500 Nm of torque, which means in-gear acceleration is pretty good. Working in harmony with the 7G-tronic Plus transmission, it enables the car to accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. That's a best-in-class figure.

The diesel engine achieves its exemplary output, torque, fuel consumption and emissions figures, as well as its highly impressive smoothness for a diesel unit, thanks to a series of innovative technologies. These include fourth-generation common-rail injection with precise injection timing, as well as two-stage turbocharging. Like all SLK models, the SLK 250 CDI is fitted as standard with an ECO start/stop system.

The rest of the car is like any other SLK, which means a not so good design (compared to the old one IMO), a great cabin loaded with features, and an awesome panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL (optional).

With the diesel engine in the SLK Mercedes-Benz has taken the next step in a successful strategy that began in 1936 with the 260 D model - the world's very first diesel car. The world's oldest motor manufacturer has continued to develop these robust and economical engines ever since and, as far back as the mid-1970s, was able to demonstrate their hitherto undiscovered qualities as high-performance units in record-breaking drives with the legendary C111-II D and the C111-III. The new Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 CDI is the logical successor to these illustrious forbears.
