Audi Quattro concept could be headed for production - report

Audi Sport Quattro Concept debut in Frankfurt 10.09.2013

Could be based on the Frankfurt or Paris concept

Audi's head of design has revealed that the company is still considering a production version of the Quattro concept. However, it might not be based on the Sport Quattro concept that was just introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Speaking to Auto Express, Wolfgang Egger said "We have done one [on the MQB platform] and now we have done the other [on the MLB platform] so now we need to make a decision.”

While both were conceived as a throwback to the original Audi Sport quattro, they used radically different powertrains. The first Quattro concept debuted three years ago at the Paris Motor Show and featured a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine with 408 HP (300 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. It enabled the car to rocket from 0-100 km/h in an impressive 3.9 seconds.

The Sport Quattro concept, on the other hand, was an eco-friendly performance model with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine and an electric motor. This setup enabled the concept to have a combined maximum output of 700 HP (515 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. In terms of performance, the car could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, hit a top speed of 305 km/h (189 mph) and consume just 2.5 L/100km (94.1 US mpg / 113 mpg UK).
