Lexus RC Convertible axed, three row crossover coming instead

Lexus RC Convertible axed, three row crossover coming instead

Lexus LF-C2 concept live in Los Angeles

Blame the dealers

Lexus just took the wraps off the LF-C2 concept but a new report is indicating it won't spawn a production variant.

While the concept was expected to preview an RC Convertible, Motor Trend is reporting the model has been scraped due to dealers who have been pushing for a three-row crossover.

According to their sources, Lexus was considering adding a third-row seat to the next-generation RX. However, they eventually decided against it.

The decision to axe the three-row crossover and approve the RC Convertible infuriated dealers.  They pushed back and forced Lexus to reconsider their position.

It appears the dealers have won out as the RC Convertible is reportedly dead and the three-row crossover is back in development. Little is known about the latter model but the magazine is reporting it will be based on the next-generation LS and could arrive as early as 2018.
