Cadillac ATS-V.R Race Car

Would you believe us if we said Cadillac is going to compete head to head against purebreds Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and BMW?

Nobody would normally, but looking at what Cadillac has revealed last week makes us think otherwise. The All American company has more than one trick up its sleeve, and aims to prove it once more on the track. After separating from its mother-company; GM, Cadillac now has the full control to potentially show us what they are made of by releasing this 600HP ATS-V.R.

Yes you read it right, a 600 horsepower, 520 foot-pound of torque, track-ready monster that will go up against cars like the Ferrari 458 GT3, Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, McLaren 650S GT3. To achieve such results, the engineers have tuned the 3.6L biturbo V6 from the ATS-V, installed a race suspension, bigger intercoolers, and the most visible change being the body: widened, lightened, lowered, it bears a massive aero package that includes an oversized wing, a front splitter and a massive hood vent yet still screams Cadillac in appearance.

All these goodies will certainly offer an amazing performance on the track, but never on the road. Why not? In case you were still in doubt, this car will not be road-legal anywhere, and is purposely built for racing only. The car is made so it meets all the FIA GT3 regulations and rules, which means it's only a matter of time before seeing it tearing thought the 30 GT Series it can compete in worldwide.

Kudos to Cadillac and its engineers, never renowned for their racing capabilities, who brings us this masterpiece out of nowhere. According to Johan de Nysschen, the brand president, the ATS-V.R "is the highest expression of Cadillac's rising product substance". Are they hinting a new segment into which they would compete, or simply a new direction for the luxury brand? Let us know what you think below in the comments!
