The BMW 1-Series GT five-seater was spied testing together with its seven-seater derivative which is also known as the Compact Activity Tourer (CAT).

You are looking at two different cars, one is the five-seater 1-Series GT and the other is the seven-seater 1-Series GT. These can easily be distinguished from one another after looking at the rearmost side window which is smaller on the five-seater version. In addition, the layout of the C-pillar is different, while at the back the rear windows and roof-mounted spoilers have different sizes.

The BMW 1-Series GT will be introduced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and will be followed late that year or early 2015 by the CAT. The Compact Activity Tourer will pave the way for BMW's compact class dubbed UKL which will be expanded by another model called the Family Activity Sports Tourer (FAST) representing a soft-roader slotted below the X1. In addition, expect to see a two-door model positioned below the 1-Series called JOY.

Confusing as it may sound, these BMWs are on their way and will be powered by an array of three- and four-cylinder engines, including the newly developed TwinPower Turbo 1.5-liter which will be sold with outputs from 82 HP (60 kW) to 224 HP (165 kW). All these cars will be available with a front-wheel drive setup but an optional AWD arrangement will be offered.
