Next-gen MINI confirmed for November 18 debut

Next-gen MINI confirmed for November 18 debut

2014 MINI Cooper teaser photo 07.08.2013

Goes on sale Q1 2014

The all-new MINI will be officially revealed on November 18, 2013 at the company's factory in Oxford, UK.

This date was chosen as homage to Sir Alexander Arnold Constantine Issigonis (born on November 18, 1906) who was the creator of the original MINI. Within the same week the car will be almost simultaneously showcased at Tokyo Motor Show and Los Angeles Auto Show, before going on sale in the first quarter of next year.

As far as styling is concerned, the 2014 MINI will be longer and wider than the outgoing model and is expected to take some design cues from the Rocketman Concept. Changes compared to its predecessor include a longer hood, slimmer A-pillars and a smaller front grille.

It will have a more traditional interior layout as the speedometer will be on the driver's side. The central area of the dashboard will be home to a big touchscreen display, while several chrome touches for the door handles, speakers and steering wheel will spice up the cabin.

The Cooper S version is rumored to feature a new turbo 1.6-liter gasoline mill with 178 bhp (132 kW), followed by the JCW model with the same engine but tweaked to output around 217 bhp (162 kW).

2014 Honda Civic Tourer confirmed for Frankfurt Motor Show arrival

2014 Honda Civic Tourer camouflaged prototype 24.07.2013

On sale early next year

Honda has announced plans to reveal the 2014 Civic Tourer in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Japanese brand is creating a lot of buzz for what will essentially be the wagon version of the Civic. They say it will have a "significantly" larger boot compared to other models in this segment and that it will come with a rear adaptive damper system with three settings: comfort, normal and dynamic.

Scheduled to hit the market early next year, the Swindon-built Civic Tourer was designed and developed in Europe and was previewed in March at the Geneva Motor Show by an extremely appealing concept. Honda's senior engineer Adrian Killham previously mentioned the version fitted with the firm's 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel will have CO2 emissions of less than 100 g/km. The Tourer variant is going to be about 88 lbs (40 kg) heavier than the regular five-door hatchback.

Also at IAA next month, Honda will showcase the revised NSX concept, its 2013 WTCC Civic and the McLaren Honda MP4/4 Heritage F1 Car which won 15 of the 16 races in the 1988 Formula 1 season.

2014 Land Rover Discovery facelift returns in spy photo session

2014 Land Rover Discovery facelift returns in spy photo session

2014 Land Rover Discovery facelift spy photo 07.08.2013 / Automedia

Minor changes

A barely disguised prototype of the 2014 Land Rover Discovery facelift has been spied ahead of next month's official debut.

Land Rover will install slim LED strips on the facelifted Discovery as seen on the new Range Rover and Evoque. In addition, the shape of the front grille will also be slightly modified as it will have elliptical cut-outs for the headlights. Land Rover has tweaked the fog lights and moved the turn signals into the exterior mirrors, while at the back the only change will be in the taillight configuration.

The supercharged V6 3.0-liter from the Jaguar F-Type S will find its way under the hood of the facelifted Discovery where it should produce the same 380 HP (279 kW). This engine will be a replacement for the bigger and thirstier V8 5.0 naturally-aspirated mill and will work at first combined with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission but later on it will be replaced by a nine-speed auto 'box.

The mildly facelifted Discovery will be presented in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

2014 Porsche Macan spied again with minimal disguise

2014 Porsche Macan spied again with minimal disguise

2014 Porsche Macan spy photo 07.08.2013

Arriving at Los Angeles Auto Show

A 2014 Porsche Macan prototype wearing minimal camouflage was spotted testing before a confirmed November debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

This particular Macan is the regular version since it has only one row of LED daytime running lights below the headlights, as opposed to the Turbo version which will have two rows of LEDs and more vents in the front. It looks basically like a shrunken Cayenne with a sloped back and a more generous center grille.

The 2014 Porsche Macan will ride on the Audi Q5 platform and will probably be offered with at least one four-cylinder engine, something that we haven't seen in a Porsche since 1995 when the 968 was discontinued. The four banger will be a 2.0-liter turbo with 220 bhp (164 kW) followed by a naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter V6 with 295 bhp (220 kW) and a more powerful V6 3.0-liter twin-turbo rated at 370 bhp (276 kW) for the Macan Turbo. Diesel choices will include a 2.0-liter TDI developing 190 bhp (142 kW) and a V6 3.0-liter TDI outputting 250 bhp (186 kW).

There are also talks about a Macan Hybrid featuring a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine working together with an electric motor that develops 54 bhp (40 kW).

The Porsche Macan will enter production phase in December, before going on sale early 2014.

Update: Since some of our readers didn't notice, the headlights and taillights are covered by faux stickers to hide the true designs.

Valet parks ten Bugatti Veyrons in one night

Valet parks ten Bugatti Veyrons in one night

Keys from ten Bugatti Veyrons 07.08.2013

In Monaco

A valet working in Monaco had the opportunity to park no less than ten Bugatti Veyrons in a single night.

You would imagine the Bugatti Veyron is a rare car given its hefty price tag but not when we consider locations such as Monaco, London or Dubai, just to name a few. Former Formula 1 driver Taki Inoue posted on his Twitter account a photo depicting ten key fobs from Veyrons which were all parked at the same spot somewhere in Monaco.

It might have been a little bit frustrating for the valet to drive those cars only for a brief moment but it is still far from being a bad job taking into account the tips he must receive and the cars he gets to drive on a daily basis. In addition, any job is better than no job.

2014 BMW i8 specifications released

 2014 BMW i8 specifications released

2014 BMW i8 07.8.2013

Debuts in Frankfurt

BMW has released new details about the 2014 i8, ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Described as the "most progressive sports car of our time," the plug-in hybrid has short overhangs, an elongated roof and aerodynamically-optimized 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. The model also has "conspicuous aerodynamic features" which enable it to have a drag coefficient of just 0.26.

Interior pictures were not released but BMW said the cabin will feature naturally tanned leather seats and a 2+2 seating arrangement.

Motivation is provided by a 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 231 HP (170 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. It is backed by an electric motor that contributes 131 HP (96 kW) and roughly 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. The electric motor powers the front wheels, while the engine powers the rear wheels.

The powertrains can operate independently or together for a maximum output of 362 HP (266 kW) and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque. When this occurs, the model can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Furthermore, the electric motor and engine give the model torque vectoring all-wheel drive.

If fuel efficiency is more important, the model can be driven on electricity alone for approximately 35 km (22 miles) at speeds up to 120 km/h (75 mph). When the battery is depleted, it can be fully recharged in less than two hours using a BMW i Wallbox or three hours using a conventional outlet.

Overall, BMW says the i8 will have an average fuel consumption of less than 2.5 liters/100 km (94 mpg US / 113 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of less than 59 g/km.

To ensure the model is light as possible, it rides on the LifeDrive architecture and features a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell, magnesium instrument panel supports and aluminum screws and bolts which are 45 percent lighter than conventional steel components. The car also has smartphone-like chemically-hardened glass which is roughly 50 percent lighter than laminated glass. All these weight saving measures add up as the i8 tips the scales at less than 1,490 kilograms (3,285 lbs).

Mazda MX-5 shows its racing ambitions in Los Angeles

Mazda MX-5 shows its racing ambitions in Los Angeles

Mazda MX-5 for 2016 Mazda Global MX-5 Cup series at Los Angeles Auto Show

Motorsport debut set for 2016

Mazda has introduced the race-spec MX-5 at the Los Angeles Auto Show ahead of its motorsport debut set for 2016.

The road-going 2016MY Miata looks manlier than ever before and now Mazda has made the roadster appear even more butch thanks to a track-only version. It will participate in a new Global Cup series set to take place in Europe, North America and Asia starting in 2016, with the season finale taking place at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California.

At the moment of writing Mazda hasn't released any technical specifications about the car, but they did say it will be powered by a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In the months to come Mazda will put the finishing touches on all of the specs, such as suspension, powertrain, tires and the other components, as well as technical partners.

It should be mention the track-ready MX-5 Miata will be sold by a sole supplier as a "ready to race" vehicle, something which Mazda hasn't done before.

Sebastian Vettel probably didn't do 350 km/h on public road with Ferrari F12 Berlinetta [video]

Video by Matthias Malmedie

A video with a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta tuned by PP-Performance doing 350 km/h on public roads in Abu Dhabi and possibly driven by Sebastian Vettel has emerged onto the web.

The video was recorded by German journalist Matthias Malmedie who posted the video on YouTube with the description “Ich liebe #Vettel ! Kaum ist er offiziell bei #Ferrari unter Vertrag, fährt er sich in Abu Dhabi den Frust von der Seele:))) #f12”.

Our German isn't that great but he probably said "I love Vettel! As soon as he is officially under contract with Ferrari, he takes his frustration off his soul in Abu Dhabi."

The video showed up online only a few hours after Ferrari announced signing a three-year contract with Sebastian Vettel who is going to replace Fernando Alonso starting next season. Most likely Vettel wasn't behind the wheel as he is still under contract with Red Bull and in case he actually did 350 km/h on public roads, he's smart enough not to allow the video go public.

In addition, PP-Performance uploaded the same video on their Facebook account with the description: "a small exit with the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta tuned by PP-Performance" so it's likely a video recorded by one of the tuner's representatives.

Maybach lineup could grow if the S-Class variant is successful

Maybach lineup could grow if the S-Class variant is successful

Mercedes-Maybach S-Class

Company is considering Maybach verisons of the E-, GLS- and S-Class Coupe

Mercedes S-Class development director Dr Hermann-Joseph Storp has revealed the company could offer additional Maybach variants if the Maybach S-Class is a success.

Speaking at the sidelines of the Los Angeles Auto Show, Storp told Autocar the company could offer Maybach versions of the E-Class, GLS-Class (previously GL-Class) and S-Class Coupe. As he explained, “Maybach is about quality, refinement, comfort and exclusivity – as long as a car has these characteristics, it could be a Maybach."

However, he stressed this is not an "active plan" because the company wants to see how the Maybach S-Class does first. If the model is successful, new variants could be offered but they might take up to two years to develop.

Lexus RC Convertible axed, three row crossover coming instead

Lexus RC Convertible axed, three row crossover coming instead

Lexus LF-C2 concept live in Los Angeles

Blame the dealers

Lexus just took the wraps off the LF-C2 concept but a new report is indicating it won't spawn a production variant.

While the concept was expected to preview an RC Convertible, Motor Trend is reporting the model has been scraped due to dealers who have been pushing for a three-row crossover.

According to their sources, Lexus was considering adding a third-row seat to the next-generation RX. However, they eventually decided against it.

The decision to axe the three-row crossover and approve the RC Convertible infuriated dealers.  They pushed back and forced Lexus to reconsider their position.

It appears the dealers have won out as the RC Convertible is reportedly dead and the three-row crossover is back in development. Little is known about the latter model but the magazine is reporting it will be based on the next-generation LS and could arrive as early as 2018.

2015 Nissan Murano to be priced from $29,560

2015 Nissan Murano to be priced from $29,560

2015 Nissan Murano

Goes on sale next month

Nissan has announced the 2015 Nissan Murano will be priced from $29,560 - excluding an $885 destination and handling fee - when it goes on sale in the United States next month.

Billed as Nissan's "halo" crossover, the 2015 Murano has a bold design that will likely provoke love or hate it reactions.

The entry-level model is sparsely equipped but features a dual-zone climate control system, power windows / locks, a keyless entry system and a 7-inch Advanced Drive-Assist display. The model also has Bluetooth connectivity and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Moving up the $32,620 SV variant rewards buyers with power front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a navigation system with an 8-inch display. The crossover also features fog lights and black roof rails.

The $36,950 Murano SL goes one step further as it adds heated leather front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a Bose audio system. Other highlights include silver roof rails, a power liftgate and an Around View Monitor.

Last but not least, the range-topping Murano Platinum has LED headlights and 20-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, there's a power tilt / telescoping steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats and a heated steering wheel.

All variants are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 260 bhp (194 kW) and 240 lb-ft (325 Nm) of torque. It is connected to an Xtronic transmission which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system.

2014 Infiniti Q60 Coupe

Q30 will also stay close to the concept

Infiniti executive design director Alfonso Albaisa has revealed plans to introduce a Q60 Coupe concept at the North American International Auto Show.

Speaking to Motor Trend, Albaisa said the concept will be "very, very, very, very close to the next Q60."  He declined to elaborate but Infiniti chief creative officer Shiro Nakamura has previously confirmed the production model will arrive next year and will be "a little bit bigger than a BMW 4-Series but not as big as a 6-Series."

Engine options will likely carryover from the Q50 but Nakamura hinted there could be an Eau Rouge variant - with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine that develops 560 bhp (417 kW) - if the Q50 Eau Rouge concept is approved for production.

Besides talking about the Q60, Albaisa confirmed the Q30 concept will closely resemble the production model.  As he explained, "All we did was change the front" end for the road-going model.

Ferrari 458 Speciale buyers must select more extra equipment or risk losing the order

Ferrari 458 Speciale buyers must select more extra equipment or risk losing the order

Ferrari 458 Speciale

First world problems

It seems an extremely high demand for the Ferrari 458 Speciale is causing some problems to those who have already ordered the model.

According to Magnitude Finance, Ferrari dealers are accepting deposits of up to £20,000 but that won't grant the customer with the guarantee he will actually receive the car. That's because the high demand for the model has forced Ferrari to prioritize orders coming from those who select more optional equipment for their 458 Speciale.

In other words, the cars are not being sold on a first-come first-served basis as many who have already placed an order have been advised several times to spend more on optional equipment or risk losing the order in favor of clients willing to get the 458 Speciale with all the bells and whistles.

One of the reasons why the 458 Speciale is in high demand has to do with the model's status of probably being one of the last naturally aspirated Ferraris. This means in the years to come the sought-after model will get more and more valuable and prices are expected to significantly increase so some people are probably buying it simply as an investment. It's the same story with the 458 Speciale Aperta which will actually be more exclusive as Ferrari plans on making only 499 cars.

MINI ALL4 Racing

This is one MINI that none of us at TopSpeed would be embarrassed to drive.

A total of eight MINI ALL4 Racing cars will compete in one of the longest and most challenging off-road events in the world: the Dakar Rally.

Originally hosted in 1979, the annual event is classified as a "rally raid" - that is, a long distance, cross-country marathon run held over the course of several days. The Dakar is composed of hundreds of racers in a variety of classes wielding motorcycles, quads, trucks, and cars. It's a grueling, two-week journey over thousands of miles of rough terrain; an epic test of both mechanical fortitude and human will. Simply finishing the event is a monumental accomplishment.

The original event was a race between Paris, France, and Dakar, Senegal, but organizers moved to South America in 2009 citing security concerns. However, the new location is no less punishing, as the upcoming rally will cover some 9,000 kilometers of dunes, mud, sand, rocks, gravel, and extreme altitudes across Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia.

If you think this sounds like the wrong event for a MINI, you're incorrect. High-performance versions of the plucky vehicle have a streak going with three consecutive victories between 2012 and 2014. For the 2015 event taking place in early January, a total of eight MINI entrants will attempt to maintain the championship.

"Even with the most outstanding preparation, the Dakar remains a tremendous adventure with unforeseeable challenges and highly demanding tasks that all participants will have to master in order to succeed," said Jochen Goller, Senior Vice President at MINI, in a press release. "With this in mind, we are more than pleased to enter the 2015 Dakar Rally with a professional, experienced team in our strategic partners of the X-raid Team, a highly competitive driver line-up and a proven winner in the Mini ALL4 Racing."

Video: Tesla Model S P85 Vs. Mercedes G63 AMG on the Drag Strip

width="460" height="370" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/vrxhr31xVHQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

Sometimes it's hard to comprehend just how fast electric cars can be. Take for example, this Tesla Modes S P85. It sits side by side with a twin-turbocharged V-8 lurking inside a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. Don't forget that V-8 pumps out an impressive 536 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque through a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission and a four-wheel-drive system. However, as this video shows, things aren't always as they seem.

The Tesla's 85-kWh battery pumps out 416 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, which is good enough for a 0-to-60-mph run of four seconds and a quarter-mile time in the 12-second range. Around town, the battery has enough juice for a leisurely 265-mile drive on a single charge. That's immensely impressive considering the Model S can carry five adults and two smaller children.

Without spoiling the outcome, both high-performance machines give it all they got once the Christmas tree turns green. Its also extremely odd to consider just how different these two are. One is a bygone German military machine with modern luxury aspirations with a thirst for dead dino blood while the other is a modern take on the electric car built wholly inside the United States by American workers for the purpose of conserving natural resources and promoting environmental awareness.

It's sort of ironic that these vehicles' exterior colors match their stark differences to a tee.

Mercedes SLK55 AMG "Performance Studio" Edition

Though it has some nice update, does this really qualify as a spcial version of the SLK55 AMG?

Introduced for the 2012 model year, shortly after the redesigned, third-generation SLK was launched, the SLK55 AMG soldiered on without any significant changes through 2014. Although the previous model received a facelift in its fourth year on the market, the current SLK55 AMG sits in showrooms with the same exterior appearance and the same 5.5-liter V-8 engine under its hood. That's likely to change sooner than later, but Mercedes-Benz has no plans to do that for 2015. Fortunately enough for those looking for a slightly updated model, AMG's Performance Studio is trying to save the day with a bespoke take on the powerful roadster.

Sadly, the fact that the SLK55 AMG is long in the tooth is evident in this "Performance Studio" package as well. Exterior changes aren't very significant, with only a new paint job, a set of wheels and a new exhaust up for grabs. The interior received a bit more attention and even a set of SLS AMG seats, but is that enough to make up for the lack of body updates? Read on to found the answer to that question.

Who Has It Bigger? Nissan Says The GT-R Nismo!

Well this is a bit strange and embarrassing. Not too long ago at the Academy Awards, Ellen DeGeneres managed to crash Twitter when she posted a celebrity selfie. Some people even went as far as to say that the internet itself was broken. Recently Paper Magazine decided it wanted to cause an incredible viral sensation by posting pictures of Kim Kardashian and her enormous booty in various states of undress accompanied with the hashtag #BreakTheInternet.

Nissan has been on point with making fun of people and situations on Twitter lately - just look at the Nyan-cat GT-R joke - and they decided that Kim Kardashian would make the perfect target. The main photo in question shows Kardashian balancing a champagne glass on her large posterior. Nissan's simple response is a rear three-quarter view of the new GT-R Nismo with a champagne glass perched upon its rear wing. The photo is complimented by little more than the text "Ours is bigger."

It is a equal parts silly, abnormal, and desperate. I love that Nissan has a social team that is not afraid to take chances on obscure social campaigns, but sadly this one feels more like a sad grab for attention by piggy-backing on what was promising to be a lucrative social movement. That said, I won't complain about more high-resolution photos of the GT-R Nismo floating around the internet.

Koenigsegg One:1 – The Perfect Equation

For over 2 decades, Christian von Koenigsegg has pushed the limits of designing hyper-cars, and his most recent masterpiece the Koenigsegg One:1 is a culmination of this experience.

The Koenigsegg One:1 predecessor platform Koenigsegg Agera R wis by every standard, an engineering masterpiece, and a remarkable milestone for the company, but for Christian, it was not enough. Koenigsegg has kept doing what it's best at; pushing the limits of design and materials engineering. Despite all doubting critics, in 2014, the company released this latest Sweedish monster which delivers a whopping 1360 PS, which equates to 1341 horsepower against a curb weight of 1360kg; hence the moniker One:1. One horsepower per Kilogram has always been the holy grail of automotive design.

Having this much horsepower can be the fashion for many other hyper-car companies, but achieving a, "One to one, power to weight ratio" was something of myth. To achieve that kind of horsepower, the Koenigsegg One:1 is powered by a twin turbo 5.0L V8, mated to a 7-speed, dual clutch electronic transmission, allowing it reach 400km/hr in 20 seconds. It is fitted with parts that were thought to be nothing but science fiction; such as a 3-D printed aerospace titanium exhaust system and variable geometry turbos. We know you are already scared thinking about how wildly fast this car is. Just incase if you are not scared enough, the car is rear wheel drive, in an age where almost all other supercars opting for all wheel drive systems. Here is a footage of a professional driver behind the wheel of a Koenigsegg One:1 during the Goodwood Hillclimb showing how much skill is required to drive this car.

We were expecting from this performance-oriented car to have a racecar interior. We were wrong...The Koenigsegg One: 1 has a very minimalistic interior theme but loaded with technology. It shares many features with the Agera R; such as the dashboard, console and steering wheel. This shows that the One: 1 does not just offer insane amount of performance but also offers luxury and entertainment. Sadly, only 6 units were produced and all of them are already sold. Owning one may seem impossible; but we can dream right?

Cadillac ATS-V.R Race Car

Would you believe us if we said Cadillac is going to compete head to head against purebreds Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and BMW?

Nobody would normally, but looking at what Cadillac has revealed last week makes us think otherwise. The All American company has more than one trick up its sleeve, and aims to prove it once more on the track. After separating from its mother-company; GM, Cadillac now has the full control to potentially show us what they are made of by releasing this 600HP ATS-V.R.

Yes you read it right, a 600 horsepower, 520 foot-pound of torque, track-ready monster that will go up against cars like the Ferrari 458 GT3, Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, McLaren 650S GT3. To achieve such results, the engineers have tuned the 3.6L biturbo V6 from the ATS-V, installed a race suspension, bigger intercoolers, and the most visible change being the body: widened, lightened, lowered, it bears a massive aero package that includes an oversized wing, a front splitter and a massive hood vent yet still screams Cadillac in appearance.

All these goodies will certainly offer an amazing performance on the track, but never on the road. Why not? In case you were still in doubt, this car will not be road-legal anywhere, and is purposely built for racing only. The car is made so it meets all the FIA GT3 regulations and rules, which means it's only a matter of time before seeing it tearing thought the 30 GT Series it can compete in worldwide.

Kudos to Cadillac and its engineers, never renowned for their racing capabilities, who brings us this masterpiece out of nowhere. According to Johan de Nysschen, the brand president, the ATS-V.R "is the highest expression of Cadillac's rising product substance". Are they hinting a new segment into which they would compete, or simply a new direction for the luxury brand? Let us know what you think below in the comments!

BMW 1-Series GT five- and seven-seater spied testing together

BMW 1-Series GT five- and seven-seater spied testing together

BMW 1-Series GT spy photo 07.08.2013

Ultimate family machine

The BMW 1-Series GT five-seater was spied testing together with its seven-seater derivative which is also known as the Compact Activity Tourer (CAT).

You are looking at two different cars, one is the five-seater 1-Series GT and the other is the seven-seater 1-Series GT. These can easily be distinguished from one another after looking at the rearmost side window which is smaller on the five-seater version. In addition, the layout of the C-pillar is different, while at the back the rear windows and roof-mounted spoilers have different sizes.

The BMW 1-Series GT will be introduced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and will be followed late that year or early 2015 by the CAT. The Compact Activity Tourer will pave the way for BMW's compact class dubbed UKL which will be expanded by another model called the Family Activity Sports Tourer (FAST) representing a soft-roader slotted below the X1. In addition, expect to see a two-door model positioned below the 1-Series called JOY.

Confusing as it may sound, these BMWs are on their way and will be powered by an array of three- and four-cylinder engines, including the newly developed TwinPower Turbo 1.5-liter which will be sold with outputs from 82 HP (60 kW) to 224 HP (165 kW). All these cars will be available with a front-wheel drive setup but an optional AWD arrangement will be offered.

Toyota Hybrid-R concept announced for Frankfurt

Toyota Hybrid-R concept announced for Frankfurt

Toyota Hybrid-R concept teaser image 07.8.2013

Will use Toyota Hybrid System-Racing technology

Toyota has announced plans to stage the global debut of the Hybrid-R concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10th.

The company didn't have much to say about the model but described it as an "exciting new concept for [the] road and track." It will also feature Toyota Hybrid System-Racing (THS-R) technology which has previously been used on the TS030 race car which came in second place at the 24 hours of Le Mans earlier this year.

The announcement leaves us with more questions than answers but the TS030 features a naturally-aspirated 3.4-liter V8 engine that develops 530 bhp (395 kW) and a capacitor-based hybrid system that can automatically deliver a 300 bhp (224 kW) boost of power when needed.

Toyota says additional information will be released in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for full details.

Opel introduces a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, will debut in the Adam

Opel / Vauxhall 1.0-liter SIDI Turbo 07.8.2013

Produces 115 HP (85 kW) and 166 Nm (122 lb-ft) of torque

Opel has announced plans to introduce their new turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Dubbed the 1.0-liter SIDI Turbo, the engine has a die-cast aluminum block, direct injection and continuously variable valve timing. The mill has also been equipped with a twin displacement oil pump and a switchable water pump that can be disengaged during startup to improve fuel-efficiency and reduce warm up times.

The engine also has acoustically-optimized covers and an isolated fuel rail which helps it to set a new "benchmark for refinement in three-cylinder engines with noise and vibration characteristics superior to many four cylinder units."

Detailed specifications haven't been released but Opel says the engine will produce 115 HP (85 kW) and 166 Nm (122 lb-ft) of torque. It will also be 20 percent more fuel-efficient than the naturally-aspirated 1.6-liter unit.

The engine will be launched in the Adam next year and be mated to an all-new six-speed manual transmission that weighs just 37 kilograms (81 pounds) and promises to deliver superior shift quality.

Debuts in Frankfurt

Citroen has released a new video of Sébastien Loeb testing the new C-Elysée WTCC at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France.

Set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the C-Elysée WTCC will compete in the World Touring Car Championship in 2014. Given its racing ambitions, the car has been equipped with an aggressive body kit that includes a new front fascia and a ventilated hood. The model also has revised side skirts, extended wheel arches, a prominent rear diffuser and a massive rear wing.

Power will be provided by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 380 bhp (283 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It will be connected to a six-speed sequential transmission which sends power to the front wheels via a mechanical self-locking differential.

The car will be driven by Loeb and Yvan Muller who remarked it's "lighter, more powerful and more efficient" than anything he has driven in recent seasons.

Lazzarini Design teases their twin-turbo Alfa 4C Definitiva with 738 bhp

Lazzarini Design Alfa Romeo 4C Definitiva

Company believes the rocket will rocket from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds

Lazzarini Design has been known to come up with some crazy ideas but their latest proposal takes the cake.

Dubbed the 4C Definitiva, the model is based on the Alfa Romeo 4C and features a Ferrari-sourced 4.3-liter V8 engine that has been equipped with twin-turbochargers from Hennessey. Thanks to these changes, the car packs an insane 738 bhp (550 kW) and 532 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque.

Performance specifications haven't been finalized but the company believes the model will weigh 955 kg (2,100 lb), accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and run the quarter mile in 9.5 seconds at 137 mph (220 km/h).

In order to keep things under control, the car has been equipped with an aerodynamic body kit that includes a new front bumper, a carbon fiber front splitter and a ventilated hood. The model also has extended fenders, revised side skirts and a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser. Other notable highlights include a prominent rear wing and a center-mounted dual exhaust system.

The car is currently under development and the company estimates the first prototype will cost about €250,000 ($310,900 / £196,842) to complete.

Vettel admits contemplating F1 exit

 Vettel admits contemplating F1 exit

Sebastian Vettel (GER) / XPB

Sebastian Vettel has admitted he weighed up switching to another team versus quitting formula one altogether ahead of the 2015 season.

It is an open secret that the quadruple world champion, having already confirmed his departure from Red Bull, is switching to Ferrari next year.

But while the man he is replacing - Fernando Alonso - continues his contractual impasse with Maranello, German Vettel is still unable to say anything.

"I am hoping to announce what is happening soon," he told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, "but right now we have to be patient."

Still, Vettel is now giving hints away that his next overalls will definitely be red.

"I am aware that a big task is lying before me," said 27-year-old Vettel, "especially at a time when Mercedes has a huge competitive advantage."

He said staying at Red Bull would have been the "easiest decision" to make.

"Doing something else is a step into the unknown," said Vettel, "and therefore a risk. But I thought about it a lot.

"If I was not convinced that I am able to be successful there, I would not be doing it. So this is not a decision against Red Bull, but to do something new."

It does sound as though Vettel, beaten this year by Red Bull's new signing Daniel Ricciardo, needed a new challenge.

He admits he even thought about quitting the sport altogether following the controversial move from V8 to turbo V6 power.

"Naturally you think about everything," said Vettel. "Suddenly you have two (engine) cylinders less and the team doesn't restart your car but reboots it like a computer."

He said the process of harvesting energy from the brakes has been a particular struggle as it "just does not feel like a normal car to me".

"You do find yourself wondering 'What has this got to do with racing?'

"But what is the alternative?" Vettel continued. "Yes the cars have become slower, but they are still the fastest you can race."

Work continues on the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as our spies have snapped new pictures of the model undergoing testing in Germany.

Caught on a foggy morning, the heavily disguised prototypes reveal the model will have a new front fascia with a smaller grille that could resemble the one on the Impala. The upscale styling continues further back as the car has curvaceous body work and a dynamic roofline which tapers to an Audi A7-inspired rear end. Speaking of the latter, it has wraparound taillights and a dual exhaust system which is nicely integrated into the rear bumper.

Chevrolet has been tight-lipped about the next-generation Malibu but it is expected to ride on an updated version of the Epsilon II platform.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but they are expected to carryover with minor improvements. There's no word on specifications but the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine currently develops 196 bhp (146 kW) and 191 lb-ft (258 Nm) of torque, while the turbocharged 2..0-liter four-cylinder cranks out 259 bhp (193 kW) and 295 lb-ft (399 Nm) of torque.

Lamborghini Veneno already up for sale?

Lamborghini Veneno already up for sale?

2013 Lamborghini Veneno

Originally cost three million euros

The Lamborghini Veneno was only introduced a couple of months ago but one of the ultra-rare supercars has apparently gone up for sale.

Refined Marques claims to have acquired one of three cars that were built to celebrate Lamborghini's 50th anniversary. Unfortunately, the company only posted a single picture of the model at the Blancpain Super Trofeo in Monza so their story is hard to verify.

Regardless, the supercar features an Aventador-sourced 6.5-liter V12 engine that develops 750 HP (552 kW). It is connected to a seven-speed ISR transmission and a permanent all-wheel drive system which enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 355 km/h (220 mph).

All three models were originally sold for €3 ($4 / £2.5) million but there's no word on how much Refined Marques wants for theirs.

Thanks to Michael for the tip!

First Tesla Model S delivered in Europe

First Tesla Model S delivered in Europe

Tesla Model S launch in Norway 07.8.2013

Bought by Norwegian Frederic Hauge

Tesla has delivered their first Model S outside of North America.

The car, a Model S Signature Edition, was delivered to Norwegian Frederic Hauge who previously bought the first electric vehicle imported into Norway in 1989. Interestingly, Hauge continuously ran his original EV through toll booths without paying until the government seized his car. He would then buy the model back and continue his antics time and time again. This went on until the government decided to eliminate tolls on electric vehicles.

According to Hauge, "As Europe's first owner of the Tesla Model S, I am very proud to be a pioneer." He went on to say the wait was frustrating but it's a great day because he finally has his car.

The European rollout of the Model S will expand shortly as deliveries are slated to occur in Switzerland and the Netherlands later this month.
