BMW rules out an M3 & M4 CSL - report

Company says the cars are as light as they can be

BMW's Matt Collins has revealed the company isn't planning to offer a CSL variant of the new M3 or M4 Coupe.

Speaking to Top Gear, Collins said "There are no plans on a CSL. Or anything like a CSL either." As he explained, the original CSL was "great because it had this real focus on lightweight engineering. But we've already done that with these new cars. We've made them as light as possible - they come in under 1500 kgs (3307 lbs), which for a car like this is incredible."

While a CSL looks unlikely, previous reports have indicated the company could offer an M4 GTS in 2016. Little is known about the model but is could be equipped with additional aluminum and carbon fiber components which could bring the weight down to less than 1,400 kg (3,086 lbs). The model is also rumored to have a sportier suspension and a stripped out interior with lightweight racing seats.
