Former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button has made a cameo appearance at the unveiling of the 2013 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-28. While this isn't terribly surprising, Button garnered a lot of attention because he drove a P1 prototype - codenamed the XP - onto the stage.

McLaren didn't want to steal any thunder from the MP4-28, so they shied away from revealing any new details about the P1. Regardless, it is expected to be powered by a 3.8-liter V8 engine which is backed up by a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) that can deliver an extra boost of performance. This should enable the car to have an output of roughly 800 hp (596 kW), but nothing is official as of yet.

The McLaren P1 is slated to go into production later this year and U.S. pricing is expected to start at $1.2 million. Despite the enormous price tag, McLaren is reportedly planning to build 500 units.
