Jaguar could launch a new XK

Could become a more focused GT car

Jaguar is analyzing the prospects of coming out with a new generation XK in the years to come.

Back in April at the New York Auto Show we saw the XK Final Fifty Edition which announced the demise of the current generation, without any news about a successor. Now, the car's project leader Russ Varney says a new XK could make a comeback sometime in the future but as a more focused GT car.

Speaking to Autocar, Varney said "there is no reason the XK couldn't exist today as a true contender in that GT segment." He went on to specify that although the F-Type has the potential to cover a lot of bases through various versions, there are still some gaps which could be filled by a new XK.

However, even if a new XK will be green-lighted for production, it's still a few years away as the company is now focusing on the XE, adding new F-Type derivatives and also putting the finishing touches on the C-X17 crossover which is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2015 or early 2016.
