Ford confirms development of F-150 Hybrid

'Working very hard'

A Ford representative has announced they are "working very hard" on an F-150 Hybrid.

Up to 700 lbs (317 kg) lighter than its predecessor, the all-new aluminum-bodied F-150 has the "highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of any full-size gasoline pickup on the market." It will eventually evolve into an even more efficient pickup as the Blue Oval company through the voice of global product development chief Raj Nair has disclosed plans for a hybridized version.

The Ford F-150 Hybrid is in an early stage of development so technical details are not available at this point. Needless to say, it will be more economical than the most frugal version on sale yet, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 which returns an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city / 26 mpg highway / 22 mpg combined.

Lastly, Nair went on to say the F-150 could gain a diesel engine if there will be enough demand to justify such a move.
