Audi RS7 piloted driving concept demonstrated at Hockenheim [video]

Completed full lap without driver

Audi has showcased the RS7 piloted driving concept last weekend during the DTM season finale, following an announcement made a few days ago.

Sooner or later we will all be passengers in our own cars and Audi is providing a taste of what's to come with the RS7 piloted driving concept which managed to lap the Hockenheim without a driver. It did it at "racing speed" and managed to complete the lap in a little over two minutes, with orientation on track provided by specially corrected GPS signals transmitted to the car through a WiFi connection.

The RS7 piloted driving concept also had 3D cameras filming the circuit and working with an on-board computer program which compared the image information provided by the camera with a pre-loaded data set.

Audi says this latest test is just an episode of a series of successful developments that started ten years ago and for this project they are working together with Stanford University and Electronics Research Laboratory.
