Next-generation Chevrolet Cruze delayed - report

Production pushed back to December of 2015

The Chevrolet Cruze is starting to show its age but a new report is indicating the next-generation model has been delayed by at a least a year.

According to Reuters, General Motors had decided to delay the model to milk more profits from the current Cruze. While this sounds rather greedy, sources say part of the delay is a result of engineering changes. As a result of both factors, the model isn't expected to go into production until in December 2015.

General Motors declined to comment on the changes, but CAW Local 4451 Chairwoman Karen Fleming confirmed the delay in newsletter that said "It was disappointing to hear that the Chevy Cruze program has been pushed back a year and will not start until 2015."

Little else is known about the model but Chevrolet has previously said it will feature "new exterior and interior styling, improved fuel economy and an improved interior compartment and more storage space." It is also expected to ride on the D2XX architecture and be offered as a sedan, hatchback and coupe.
