Development work continues on the Mercedes GLA as our spies have caught the model undergoing testing ahead of its Frankfurt debut.
Previewed by the GLA concept, the production model appears to eschew the aggressive styling and adopt a familiar design which closely echoes the A-Class. As a result, the crossover resembles a high-riding hatchback with a two-bar grille, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and bulging rear fenders.
Engine options, likely virtually everything else, will be shared with the A-, B- and CLA-Class. This means choices should include:
We can also expect a GLA 45 AMG with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 360 HP (265 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque.
Our spies have sent us a batch of spy photos depicting an extra-long wheelbase variant of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The new S-Class is currently available with two wheelbases: 3035mm and 3165mm. There will also be a Pullman version considerably longer than these two which will essentially be a successor of the defunct Maybach brand. The 2014 S-Class Pullman is believed to have six seats in a 2+2+2 configuration.
Now we have learned Mercedes-Benz is preparing another S-Class to slot between the long wheelbase model and the Pullman. This new version will seat four people and is expected to be 200mm longer than the LWB model which is 5246mm long. The silver prototype caught in these spy shots came with a sticker that said "hybrid" so expect a plug-in version just like in the S500 which will be showcased in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Vorsteiner has unveiled their new Range Rover Veritas.
Looking undeniably aggressive, the model has been equipped with a carbon fiber body kit that includes modified bumpers and revised side skirts. The Veritas also has 24-inch VSR-163 forged monoblock wheels with Pirelli tires and a "gloss brushed shadow" finish.
To help celebrate the launch, Vorsteiner is "offering custom leather upholstery along with a comprehensive bespoke build service that includes complete installation and paint service here at the Vorsteiner facility."
There's no word on pricing but the styling package will likely cost a pretty penny.
Ford just unveiled the facelifted Focus but new details are starting to emerge about the Focus RS.
According to Sweden's Auto Motor and Sport, the high-performance model will likely eschew the Geneva and Paris Auto Show and be launched in 2015.
Power will reportedly be provided by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine. It produces approximately 305 bhp (227 kW) in the 2015 Mustang but could be tuned to develop roughly 330 bhp (246 kW) in the Focus RS.
Little else is known about the model but previous reports have indicated it could be available exclusively as a five-door hatchback with front-wheel-drive. We can also expect a sport-tuned suspension, high-performance brakes and a limited slip differential.
The 2015 Aston Martin V8 Vantage N430 is the latest track ready road legal car from Aston Martin. The V8 Vantage N430 is available in Coupe and Roadster form.
The new V8 Vantage N430 is powered by a 4.7 Litre V8 engine (front mid-mounted), which delivers 430hp of max power at 7300 rpm and 490 Nm of max torque at 5000 rpm. The car completes the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62mph) in just 4.8 seconds and has a max speed of 190 mph (305km/h).
The 2015 Aston Martin V8 Vantage N430 is priced from 89,995 and deliveries are expected to begin in September 2014.
The 2015 Audi S1 will be unveiled at the upcoming 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The new Audi S1 is powered by a new 2.0 TFSI engine delivers 231 HP of power and 370 Nm of torque while consuming 7.0L per 100 kms (33.6 mpg).
The Audi S1 will be available for 29,950 in the second quarter of 2014 in Germany.
Honda has released a design sketch with the Brio MPV which will be showcased starting September 19 at the Indonesia Motor Show.
Developed for the Asian market, the MPV will offer seven seats in a three-row configuration. In terms of design, the car appears to be surprisingly attractive for what will essentially be a low-cost car and hopefully these appealing styling cues will be carried over once the production model is shown in the metal.
Powering Honda's new budget MPV is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine which promises to deliver "both sporty performance and good fuel efficiency." Little else is known about the model, except that it rides on the Honda Freed platform and has a 185mm ground clearance.
The MPV is the third body style which will be added to the Brio family, following the hatchback's launch in 2011 and the sedan's arrival in November 2012.
Production will commence in early 2014 at Honda’s second plant in Karawang.
[update] Additional photos added.
These are the first official (and confirmed) images with the 2014 Honda Fit/Jazz.
We have seen several leaked photos with the new Fit/Jazz but these are the first ones published by Honda showing a design with some influences from the 2012 Insight with angular headlamps and a large front bumper. The back of the car looks quite busy with its Volvo-inspired taillights, ventilated bumper and the chrome trim from one taillight to the other.
These images are also depicting the hybrid version which makes use of a new four-cylinder, 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine working together with a high-output electric motor, lithium-ion battery and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Thanks to this setup, the 2014 Honda Fit/Jazz Hybrid achieves a fuel economy of 36.4 km/l (85.6 mpg US / 102.8 mpg UK or 2.7 liters / 100 km).
The 2014 Honda Fit/Jazz Hybrid comes with a choice of three driving modes: EV, Hybrid and Engine, meaning it can run as a zero-emission electric car, as a hybrid or as a conventionally-powered vehicle.
Full details will be released closer to the car's launch in Japan scheduled for September.
Ford revealed this week at Comic-Con in San Diego the F-150 "The Crimefighter" as a tribute to the original Batmobile.
They joined forces with Galpin Auto Sports to create a special pickup truck for Batman in case he wants to do some home improvements and has to carry heavy and bulky materials. It was designed by Jared Barris who is the grandson of George Barris, a well-known car customizer.
The vehicle of choice was a 2012MY F-150 which has received the "Crimefighter" moniker. It was painted in Tuxedo Black with Ferrari Red accents and comes with fins on each side of the bed.
Galpin Auto Sports announced they are currently taking orders for this custom F-150. There's no word about price but has to be significantly cheaper than the original 1966 Batmobile which was sold in January at a Barrett-Jackson auction for 4.62M USD.
We received an additional batch of spy photos with the facelifted Dacia Duster, prior to its Frankfurt arrival in September.
The Romanian budget off-roader went on sale in 2010 which means time has come for a nip and tuck to keep the model fresh and competitive. Despite the very low price tag, sales of the Duster haven't lived up to Renault's expectations which hope this revision to both front and rear fascias will increase deliveries.
Dacia will focus on tweaking the bumpers and head/taillights, while the car's sides will be left untouched. Some minor changes inside the cabin are expected, along with the possibility of new engines provided by Renault.
Our sources have informed us Dacia is already working on the second generation model which is scheduled to come out in 2015.
MINI has revealed a trio of summer getaway cars in the form of a Clubvan Camper, Cowley and Countryman ALL4 Camp.
Clubvan Camper is being described as "world's smallest luxury camper van" offering a sleeping berth for one person along with a small, extendible kitchenette featuring a chest fridge and propane stove. Other goodies include a glass-made roof which can be opened, a satellite-navigation system and a built-in hand-held shower with a water tank installed underneath the load floor.
The MINI Cowley caravan comes with two sleeping berths, a twin-burner gas stove and a water tank with pump and sink facility. The on-board battery is charged via a solar module, while the 230-volt connection powers the TV/DVD, fridge and audio system. Its teardrop-shaped trailer has sliding windows on both doors and weighs less than 300 kg (661 lbs).
As for the MINI Countryman ALL4 Camp, this concept has a roof-mounted tent big enough for two people and can be folded out of its storage box when necessary. The vehicle wears an Absolute Black metallic paint and provides easy bicycle transportation thanks to the custom rack.
More details are available in the attached press release.
A prototype of the Lotus Exige-bodied Renault/Caterham Alpine has been spied testing once again at the Nürburgring.
Judging by the French license plates this is a different prototype than the one photographed earlier this week but it looks virtually the same with its Lotus Exige body and beefier wheel arches. The prototype in these latest spy photos was seen on another occasion being tested by Swedish suspension firm Öhlins together with the Clio RS and Megane RS.
Like we mentioned a couple of days ago, there will be several differences between the two cars. A 1.6-liter turbocharged engine producing as much as 300 bhp (224 kW) is rumored for at least one of the cars. Since there will be output differences, we assume Caterham's version will be the lesser model as it will carry a significantly lower price tag.
A preview concept of Caterham's model will be unveiled in the first half of next year with a different name since only Renault's version will get to use the Alpine moniker. It will look "distinctively British" and people will easily recognize the car as a Caterham, according to a source from within the company.
Renault's marketing chief Stephen Norman says their version won't be soft but neither will it be "more hardcore than a Mazda MX-5." Some reports are suggestion the Renault Alpine will use an engine bigger than the rumored 1.6, with some saying it will be a turbocharged 2.0-liter mill. The car has been confirmed for a late 2015 launch.
The 2013 Volkswagen Golf VII GTD was filmed at a dealership wearing a Carbon Steel Grey paint scheme.
The most powerful diesel Golf VII comes with a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine delivering 181 bhp (135 kW) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm). Volkswagen says it can do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 7.5 seconds but the video below shows the run is completed in 7.17 seconds (with room for improvement). Top speed has increased from Golf VI GTD's 138 mph (222 km/h) to 143 mph (230 km/h) thanks to an extra 13 bhp (9.6 kW) and 22 lb-ft (30 Nm).
Compared to the Golf VII GTI, the GTD model doesn't have the red trim on the front grille and in the headlights, while the alloys have a slightly different design. The GTD is also more economical as it can return 56 mpg US (67.3 mpg UK or 4.1 liters / 100 km) whereas the GTI will do 39.2 mpg US (47 mpg UK or 6.0 liters / 100 km).
Topping the Volkswagen Golf VII lineup will be the R version due next year which is rumored to have somewhere in the region of 300 bhp (224 kW).
Renault has created a special Black Edition of the Dacia Duster to celebrate this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The special edition is based on the Duster Ambiance dCi 110 4x2 model and can be distinguished by its brushed black vinyl wrap and larger 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior cabin has gained leather upholstery along with a Kenwood media system with a six-inch high-resolution display and support for Bluetooth with hands-free calling. The system also has DAB radio, Garmin satellite-navigation with TMC traffic info, USB/iPod support and DVD playback.
The Dacia Duster Black Edition is available at an on-the-road-price of 17,575 GBP. A facelifted model has been confirmed for a September debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Race Tools has introduced the first tuning program for the 2014 Mercedes S-Class.
The S 350 BlueTEC can be equipped with an optimized ECU which enables the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine to produce 300 HP (220 kW) and 670 Nm (494 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 42 HP (30 kW) and 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) of torque.
The S500, on the other hand, can be equipped with one of two different packages. The €597 CR plug-in module enables the 4.7-liter V8 engine to develop 491 HP (361 kW) and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) of torque - an improvement of 35 HP (26 kW) and 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). Moving up to the €1,537 version cranks up the output to 516 HP (379 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 60 HP (44 kW) and 100 Nm (73 lb-ft) of torque. Detailed performance specifications were not released, but this package also raises the top speed to 297 km/h (185 mph).
The performance accessories will go on sale this weekend and be available to international customers.
Porsche has quietly announced the 2014 Macan will go into production in December.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of the completion of a new paint shop which required nine air vents to be lifted into place by a helicopter. The paint shop is just part of a €500 ($656 / £430) million investment into the Leipzig plant to prepare it to build the new crossover.
According to Porsche Executive Board Chairman Siegfried Bülow, "This will complete the next major step in the preparatory stage of production of the Porsche Macan. The paint shop facilities have already been installed and the first car bodies will be painted in a test-operation as early as August. We are on schedule and are very keen to see the first car roll off the production-line in December."
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra have an evolutionary design and that could come back to haunt them.
Reuters is reporting the trucks won't be able benefit from an extensive weight reduction program until they are redesigned in 2019. This means Ford will beat them to the punch with the 2015 Ford F-150 which is expected to weigh as much as 750 lbs (340 kg) less than its predecessor. As a result, the F-150 could have significantly better fuel economy than the Silverado and Sierra for next four to five years.
When asked about the situation, GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson told Reuters "We're going to look at all the levers we can pull - materials, aerodynamics, powertrain - to continue to improve fuel efficiency, both on an interim basis and as we go to the next-generation trucks." He declined to go into specifics but sources suggest the company could introduce an aluminum-intensive Silverado as early as next year. The variant could weigh 250 lbs (113 kg) less than the standard model and have fuel economy gains of up to 20 percent.
While the trucks won't benefit from a full makeover until 2019, the company will reportedly make annual updates to reduce weight. Nothing is official but sources suggest the company is working with suppliers to create lighter springs, axles and driveshafts.
Alfa Romeo has a history of building stylish and sporty sedans, but their current lineup doesn't reflect this prestigious pedigree. In an effort to set things right, the company will reportedly drop the Mito and Giulietta to focus exclusively on rear- and all-wheel drive models.
The bold plan calls for Alfa Romeo to work with Maserati to develop a new modular platform which will be used to underpin two sedans and two crossovers. The first model, the oft-delayed Giulia, is expected to be launched in 2015 and challenge the BMW 3-Series. A year later we can expect an Alfetta which will reportedly battle the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class. We can also expect an entry-level crossover to the battle the BMW X1 in 2017 and a larger model to tackle the X3 in 2018.
Little else is known about the vehicles but they will reportedly have sporty styling and dramatic proportions. They could also be equipped with Maserati's twin-turbo V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
HG Motorsport has introduced a new tuning program for the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance.
While model normally produces 230 HP (169 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, the tuning firm installed a carbon air intake, a sports exhaust system and an HF Series intercooler. This enables the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine to develop 263 HP (193 kW) and 376 Nm (277 lb-ft) of torque.
If that isn't powerful enough, the stage two package adds an optimized ECU which enables the mill to churn out 289 HP (212 kW) and 405 Nm (299 lb-ft) of torque. Additional optimization allows the engine to develop 302 HP (222 kW) and 444 Nm (327 lb-ft) of torque. The highest tune offers 308 HP (226 kW) and 435 Nm (321 lb-ft) of torque, but it seems like sort of a wash as there's only a modest horsepower gain at the expensive of torque.
BMW is celebrating their 30th anniversary of offering diesel engines.
While diesels are pretty common today, especially in Europe, many people regarded them as loud and dirty back in the 80's. BMW sought to change this, in part because of the lasting sting of the 1970's oil crisis.
When it came to developing the engine, BMW decided it had to combine fuel efficiency and durability as well as "high performance, spontaneous power delivery and optimum smoothness." As a result, engineers created a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine that produced 115 HP (85 kW) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque.
The engine was fitted to the 1983 524 tD which instantly became the fastest diesel model in the world as it could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 12.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). More importantly, the model averaged 7.1 L/100km (33.1 mpg US / 39.7 mpg UK).
The rest, as they say, is history as BMW continued to develop their diesel engines into the tri-turbo beasts the power the M550d today.

The managing director of BMW M Performance Automobiles has revealed the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe will likely debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show.
Speaking to Motor Trend, Friedrich Nitschke said "I think both M3 and M4 will be at the Detroit Show." He declined to elaborate but confirmed the cars will have a carbon fiber roof, an aluminum hood and a carbon fiber trunk lid. We can also expect carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium to be used in the crash zones.
While Audi and Mercedes have embraced all-wheel drive on their performance models, Nitschke said "it’s not necessary on M cars." As he explained, all-wheel drive would spoil the steering and add 80 kg (176 lbs) to the new M3. Nitschke went on to say the cars will have excellent traction - thanks to a torque vectoring differential and a new traction management system - so all-wheel drive simply isn't worth the trade offs.
Nitschke also confirmed he wants a 1-Series M Coupe successor but no decision has been made as of yet. The MD also said he drove the Mercedes A45 AMG on the Nürburgring and found that it understeers and has a laggy engine.
Kelleners Sport has released the first pictures of their upcoming tuning program for the BMW 6-Series GranCoupe.
Looking bold an aggressive, the model has been equipped with a new front bumper that has honeycomb inserts and an integrated spoiler. We can also see a ventilated hood, revised side skirts, attractive alloy wheels and front fender vent surrounds.
The sporty styling continues out back as there's a trunk-mounted spoiler, a sports exhaust system and a new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser which should improve downforce.
There's no word on any performance modifications, but Kelleners offers optimized ECUs for the 6-Series Coupe and Convertible, so we wouldn't be surprised if they are also available on the GranCoupe.
G-Power has released a revision for its BMW M5 Touring (E61) upgrade program introduced about three years ago.
The original kit increased output of the twin-supercharged V10 5.0-liter engine to an already impressive 750 HP (551 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) which allowed the hot wagon to do 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds before hitting an electronically-capped top speed of 224 mph (360 km/h).
Fast forward three years and the M5 Touring now delivers 820 HP (603 kW) and 790 Nm (582 lb-ft) which has slashed the sprint time by 0.1s while top speed has increased to a limited 225 mph (362 km/h). G-Power mentions the 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) now takes 9.5 seconds while from 0 to 186 mph (300 km/h) it will need 25.6 seconds.
With this impressive upgrade kit G-Power is celebrating its 30th anniversary and together with the added oomph the M5 Touring now rides on 20-inch Silverstone RS wheels wrapped around in Michelin Pilot Sport tires. It also has a coilover suspension with nine-way adjustability and a new braking system consisting of 396mm front / 380mm rear discs with six- and four-point calipers, respectively.
The interior cabin features full leather upholstery combined with Alcantara and carbon inserts along with a multimedia system encompassing iPads, an iMac, Apple TV and other similar gadgets. There's also a G-Power application developed exclusively for this model to individually control all of the electric-operated components.
The car showcased in these photos is available for 242,016 EUR (without VAT) while the tuner's V10 supercharger systems begin at 7,300 EUR (VAT excluded).
More info is provided in the press release section.
The Lancia Ypslion has received a digital makeover from Khalil B. who envisioned the model in a hotter HF version.
Most of you have probably heard that Lancia is in a critical condition since Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has announced the brand will soon be offered only in Italy and they will sell just one model, the Ypsilon. Now, Khalil B. decided to digitally create a hotter version of the model wearing the legendary "HF"” (High Fidelity) moniker.
The more potent Lancia Ypsilon envisioned in these renders wears a slightly more aggressive body kit with beefier bumpers, larger alloy wheels, muscular side skirts and a roof-mounted spoiler. It also comes with a dual exhaust arrangement and red accents on the rear diffuser while the mirrors wear a two-tone red and black theme.
Although it has a lot of potential, an uprated version of the Ypsilon is simply not enough to put Lancia back on the map but it would represent a solid first step to keep the brand afloat.
[update] Video and live photos added.
BMW revealed yesterday in Lisbon, Portugal the 4-Series Coupe fitted with M Performance parts, giving us a first taste of the upcoming M4 Coupe.
It looks considerably more aggressive than the standard model thanks to a new body kit with a deeper front bumper that has a carbon fiber splitter and larger air ducts. Other changes include xenon/LED headlamps, 20-inch alloy wheels and several blackened chrome trims for the window surrounds, tail pipes and grille.
We also notice the beefier side sills and carbon fiber exterior mirror housings, together with a boot deck spoiler made from the same lightweight material. The revised rear bumper has air extraction ducts and a built-in diffuser, while the sides of the car are adorned by new decals. The interior cabin boasts a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel and sport seats, stainless steel pedals and footrest, M Performance floor mats and carbon fiber trim for the hand brake and gearshift levers.
BMW says the 4-Series Coupe fitted with the M Performance package brings an extra 16 bhp (12 kW) and 29 lb-ft (39 Nm) for the 420d model which is powered by a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The added oomph increases total output to 195 bhp (145 kW) and 309 lb-ft (418 Nm). The 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine in the 428i is also upgraded to 269 bhp (200 kW) and 287 lb-ft (389 Nm), representing an increase of 27 bhp (20 kW) and 29 lb-ft (39 Nm). In addition, the 435i with its turbocharged 6-cylinder, 3.0-liter gasoline engine gains 34 bhp (25 kW) and 37 lb-ft (50 Nm) for a total of 336 bhp (250 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm). All these power upgrades are done via new exhaust systems and software tweaks.
From the M Performance Parts catalog customers will have the possibility of selecting a limited-slip differential which will be a clutch-type unit featuring a 30 percent lock-up.
It is believed the BMW M4 Coupe will be unveiled in January 2014 at the Detroit Motor Show.

These are the first images with the Seat Leon ST which will premiere in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Seat launched the all-new Leon five-door hatchback last year and expanded the lineup with a sleeker three-door coupe a few months ago with the SC model. Now, they are about to add a third body style in the form of a more practical ST variant which will provide a cargo capacity of 587 liters with the seats up. It's a bit less than its cousins as the Golf VII Variant has 605 liters while the Octavia Combi provides 610 liters for cargo.
In terms of design, there isn't pretty much to talk about since it looks like a stretched version of the regular model with roof rails and different multi-spoke alloys. The taillights appear to be slightly rounder and larger compared to the hatchback but overall the design is almost identical. This isn't really a surprise as Volkswagen and Skoda used the same recipe on the Golf Variant and Octavia Combi, respectively.
Engine lineup will be carried over from the other two body styles so expect TSIs from a 1.2-liter with 86 HP (63 kW) to a 1.8-liter developing 180 HP (132 kW). Diesel offering will include a 1.6-liter TDI with 90 HP (66 kW) and 105 HP (77 kW), together with a 2.0-liter TDI offering with 150 HP (110 kW) and 184 HP (135 kW).
Seat's R&D boss Matthias Rabe confirmed the Leon ST will be offered in a right-hand, four-wheel drive version with the 4MOTION system borrowed from the Golf VII. Following the ST's launch, Seat will reveal before the end of the year the hotter Leon Cupra hatchback and coupe, while a Cupra ST model is not certain at this moment.

You might be wondering why Chevrolet would be developing the next generation of its popular Spark so soon. After all, 2013 was the Spark's first year in the U.S. While the likeable little subcompact was new to us last year, the overall design has been in production since 2009 and sold in countries around the world as the Chevrolet Beat.
The aging Beat (Spark) is due for a refresh and the General looks to be making a clean sweep.
Not much is know about the prototype seen here as it scurries about during cold-weather testing near the Arctic Circle. The redesign will likely be more evolutionary in nature, and will feature a heavily updated grille as evidenced by the thick camouflaging.
The Spark has sold well in the U.S. over its first year, selling 26,869 units - 35 percent beyond what Chevy had originally forecasted. Worldwide sales total 720,000 units since the model's 2009 introduction.
An all-electricSpark EV came to market for 2014 and has sold over 400 examples in the EV's limited markets of California and Oregon. The EV has a range of 82 miles on a single charge (7 more than the Nissan Leaf), and is powered by an electric motor that produces 140 horsepower and an impressive 400 pound-feet of torque.
The standard gasoline model isn't quite as powerful, as its 1.2-liter I-4 puts out a scant 84 horsepower and 83 pound-feet of torque. But at only 2,269 pounds, the Spark doesn't need much more for its inner-city intended purpose. Both a manual and CVT are available in the gasoline-powered Spark.

Back in 2009, TopGear took a trip to Romania and tested the "Transfagarasan" road. In the end, the guys were so impressed by the road, that Jeremy called it: "the best road in the world!" I've personally traveled that road and generally agree, but that's only because TopGear never tested the other great road in Romania: Transalpina.
Transfagarasan climbs to 2,034 meters (1,263 miles) above sea level and is 90 km (60 miles) of hard hairpin turns, long S-curves and sharp descents top allow you to really test your driving skills. The only problem is that the speed limit is 40 km/h (about 25 mph), but I doubt that some folks resisted the urge to push their car to its limits. Not to mention that the scenery is simply amazing here.
But, no matter how wild the Trasfagarasan is, it is not as scary as Transalpina, or the "King's Road" as it is also called. It climbs to 2,145 meters (1,332 miles) and is a little bit longer than the other road at 148 km (91 miles). While it may not offer the same hairpin bends as the Trasfagarasan, driving it is a little bit scarier, given the road is built on the edge of the mountain and when you look down, all you see is large precipice with no end. Also, this road requires you to drive a more powerful car, because at higher altitudes, it climbs really fast and a small engine has no chance of making it.
Of course this is our opinion on the roads, now check out what the guys over Evo have to say about the two Romania roads. They have the advantage of driving a Jaguar F-Type Roadster, so next to some great scenery you will also enjoy an amazing car!
