Official: Novitec Rosso Ferrari SA Aperta

novitec rosso 599

We know Novitec Rosso as a specialist in tuning Ferrari's, Maserati's and Alfa Romeo's. Their newest package has been created as a sport program for the Ferrari SA Aperta, an exclusive Ferrari wherefrom only 80 cars were ever built.

The package comes with a a twin supercharger conversion that brings the output of the V12 from 670 hp to a stunning 888 hp together with 862 Nm of Torque. That power makes the car sprint to a topspeed of 212 mph (340 km/h) and makes it jump from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h)in just 3.1 seconds. Six seconds later the 125 mph (200 km/h) barrier is crossed and another eleven seconds later you'll be doing 187.5 mph (300 km/h).

Of course not only the power can make the Ferrari this fast, but the combination of weight saving materials such as superlight forged wheels with sizes of 21 and 22 inches, sport spring and a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with butterfly valve. Novitec Rosso also offers exclusive interior appointments in any desired colour or upholstery design for the drop-top Ferrari.

The result is a unique power yield that makes the SA Aperta one of the most powerful drop-top sports cars in the world.

Mercedes SLK 250 CDI Diesel Specs

Mercedes SLK 250 CDI Diesel Specs SLK 250 CDI 1

Having a sports roadster powered with a diesel engine is kinda like having a wife with a mustache. That's not the case with the new Mercedes SLK 250 CDI though.

You see this 2.2 liter unit they'e put in the SLK is mainly designed for driving fun. And it just happens to be so economical.

Let us give you some numbers. This engine makes 150 kW or 204 PS, does 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, and can reach top speed of 243 km/h or about 150 mph. So it's definitely not a pig. Still, it has an average fuel consumption of 4.9 liter per 100 km. So your fun behind the wheel lasts longer.

What's more, the 2.2 diesel unit makes an enormous 500 Nm of torque, which means in-gear acceleration is pretty good. Working in harmony with the 7G-tronic Plus transmission, it enables the car to accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. That's a best-in-class figure.

The diesel engine achieves its exemplary output, torque, fuel consumption and emissions figures, as well as its highly impressive smoothness for a diesel unit, thanks to a series of innovative technologies. These include fourth-generation common-rail injection with precise injection timing, as well as two-stage turbocharging. Like all SLK models, the SLK 250 CDI is fitted as standard with an ECO start/stop system.

The rest of the car is like any other SLK, which means a not so good design (compared to the old one IMO), a great cabin loaded with features, and an awesome panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL (optional).

With the diesel engine in the SLK Mercedes-Benz has taken the next step in a successful strategy that began in 1936 with the 260 D model - the world's very first diesel car. The world's oldest motor manufacturer has continued to develop these robust and economical engines ever since and, as far back as the mid-1970s, was able to demonstrate their hitherto undiscovered qualities as high-performance units in record-breaking drives with the legendary C111-II D and the C111-III. The new Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 CDI is the logical successor to these illustrious forbears.

Hyundai Adding Turbocharged Veloster, Refreshed Genesis Coupe

Historically, Hyundai has never been known for offering anything performance related. The Tiburon was mostly a failure at attracting any kind of enthusiasts. The rear-wheel drive Genesis Coupe started to change things though, and recently Hyundai upped the ante with the 5.0 R-Spec Genesis Sedan. The company still has a long way to go though, and via Car and Driver Chief Executive Officer John Krafcik has shed some lights on plans to boost power for its two "performance" models.

We say "performance" with quotations because, while Hyundai categorizes its front-wheel drive Veloster as a sporty entrant, its hard to call it one. While being lightweight, the 138 horsepower four-cylinder doesn't move it all that quickly. To offer something for those looking for a more involving drive, Hyundai has announced a turbocharged version. The turbo Veloster will get a 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 204 hp. Now that's more like it! A boost of 66 ponies will be the shot in the arm that the Veloster needs.

Hopefully, along with the added power will come some suspension and other tweaks. Hyundai is hoping its new Veloster will find a foothold younger buyers wanting to stand out. Small cars have been getting increasingly more competitive and stylish lately, as buyers are looking for more fuel-efficient options. More stylish options is a welcome change. Remember econoboxes from a few years back? On second thought, don't. They don't bring back great memories. Hyundai is pitching the Veloster as a sporty offering, slotting in (very much so in our opinion) the Genesis Coupe.

Given that Hyundai considers the Veloster part of its "performance" portfolio, the Genesis Coupe will be getting upgraded to provide more of a separation in power between the two. We doubt the Veloster will prove much of a threat, but it's good to see the Genesis Coupe getting some improvements regardless. Given Hyundai's consistent updates to the Genesis sedan, it has been overdue for some tweaking.

Tweaks will include boosting the base Genesis Coupe's 2.0-liter turbocharged four, as well the updated six-cylinder from the sedan. That means the refreshed Genesis should offer 333 hp from its top-end naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter. No word on where the the 2.0-liter turbo will come in as far as power.

The Genesis Coupe will also be getting a styling refresh; Hyundai will updated it with a front-end design similar to the Veloster. We can't say we like the sounds of that. We were hoping the Genesis Coupe would go down a bit different route, adding a touch of class and maturity similar to the sedan. Cartoonish is the way they are going though apparently. Hopefully it turns out better looking than it sounds. The updated Genesis Coupe and Veloster Turbo will be debuting at the North American International Auto Show in January.

The guys at AutoEvolution caught the 2013 Mercedes SL' interior on camera.

True to Mercedes-Benz "tradition" of bringing together designs and styles from their different models, the interior of the SL's is kind of showing other Mercedes cars. Example, the gearshift selector looks like its from the SLS AMG while the dials looks so much like the new SLK. There are also new things in the car, such as the steering wheel's square buttons.
