BMW has revealed some new details about their future lineup at the Annual Accounts Press Conference in Munich.

While the event mostly focused on the company's financial results, BMW Board Member Dr. Friedrich Eichiner confirmed the automaker is working on new "drive concepts, lightweight design and connectivity between the vehicle and its surroundings."

That's pretty vague but Eichiner confirmed their new rear-wheel-drive architecture is "virtually ready for series production."  It will debut on the 2016 7-Series and eventually underpin an assortment of other models including the next-generation 5-Series.

Eichiner also said we can expect additional eDrive plug-in hybrid models later this year.  The executive declined to elaborate but one of them could be the 3-Series Plug-in Hybrid which is slated to feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.

In related news, Eichiner confirmed BMW Motorrad will launch five new models in 2015.  These include the F 800 R, S 1000 RR, S 1000 XR, R 1200 R and the R 1200 RS.
