Lamborghini doesn't have illustrious racing history like McLaren or Ferrari, but they are planning on changing that. Lamborghini has just revealed the GT3 racing version of its entry-level super car, the Huracan. Not only does it look fantastic, with all the extra carbon fiber bits, it is also quite important for Lamborghini's brand image.
Both Ferrari and McLaren sell their road cars to the public based on their racing history and the promise of race proved technology in their cars. Lamborghini, on the other hand, has sold its road cars based on the sheer lunacy and absolute craziness of their cars. Lamborghini has historically made bedroom-poster-approved super cars that always looked and sounded like they belong on the race track, but never really performed to the expectations on the track. However, that's not to say that they haven't dabbled in motor racing before. They have had their one make Super Trofeo racing series and have supported Reiter Engineering who have run various Lamborghinis in the past.
Lamborghini is planning selling the FIA GT3 spec Huracan to teams entering races across the globe. Since this is Lamborghini's first serious attempt at making a FIA approved racecar, expect there to a lot of factory support for the teams that enter the GT3 Huracan. If Lamborghini wants to be taken seriously at the track, they are going to need to bring all the support they can. Personally I am rooting for the underdogs, as I would really like to see Lamborghini as a successful racing team. Hopefully, they can then engineer their road cars with race-proven technology so that their cars can finally perform on the track as good as they look.
No pricing for North America has been announced, but the European price has been set at 369,000 euros, or around $529,000 CAD at current conversion rates.
