Will feature a soft top

Our spies have managed to take several photographs of a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet prototype.

Mercedes-Benz is ramping up expansion of the C-Class with additional derivatives which will create the largest family ever. Already available are the usual sedan and wagon derivatives but these will be joined in the next couple of years by a coupe and a convertible. The first to come will probably be the coupe which will be followed by an open-air variant equipped with a multi-layered soft top since a hard roof would add weight and increase complexity.

The cabrio will come with Mercedes-Benz's usual neck-level heating (AIRSCARF) and air-deflection (AIRCAP) systems and will have just about the same engines as the other C-Class models. A C63 AMG version is already planned and will come with a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine which is expected to develop around 480 PS (353 kW).

In terms of pricing, we believe the C-Class Cabriolet will be cheaper than the SLK which at home in Germany kicks off at 39,359 EUR. An official reveal will likely occur at next year's Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled for September.
