Work continues on the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as our spies have snapped new pictures of the model undergoing testing in Germany.

Caught on a foggy morning, the heavily disguised prototypes reveal the model will have a new front fascia with a smaller grille that could resemble the one on the Impala. The upscale styling continues further back as the car has curvaceous body work and a dynamic roofline which tapers to an Audi A7-inspired rear end. Speaking of the latter, it has wraparound taillights and a dual exhaust system which is nicely integrated into the rear bumper.

Chevrolet has been tight-lipped about the next-generation Malibu but it is expected to ride on an updated version of the Epsilon II platform.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but they are expected to carryover with minor improvements. There's no word on specifications but the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine currently develops 196 bhp (146 kW) and 191 lb-ft (258 Nm) of torque, while the turbocharged 2..0-liter four-cylinder cranks out 259 bhp (193 kW) and 295 lb-ft (399 Nm) of torque.
