2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

These are the first pictures of the 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS in the wild without any camouflage!

Out of all the various configurations that the 911 can be ordered in, the Porsche 911 GT3 is known as the "driver's" variant of Porsche's 911 range. There have been three iterations of the GT3 so far, with the last two spawning a more hardcore "RS" model, which is meant for the more serious, track-focused enthusiast.

Presently, Porsche has only officially released the "normal" GT3 variant of the current 991 series 911. However, these pictures are unofficially making their way around the internet of the new GT3 RS thanks to Instagram

When taking a closer look, there are some interesting details revealed in these pictures. The obvious difference between the standard GT3 and the RS is the addition of a roll cage, lightweight seats, and a massive rear wing, stating its intention of being a track focused car. Moreover, there are new vents over the front wheel arches. These vents will probably be used for cooling the brakes and getting rid of some of that excess turbulent air in the wheel wells. However, the most interesting detail about this car that these pictures reveal is the addition of side air intakes.

Traditionally, side air intakes on 911s in the past were there to accommodate airflow to the intercoolers for the turbochargers. Thus, only 911 Turbos have had the need for these extra intakes. This is odd, as the GT3 has, and always has had, a high revving naturally aspirated engine. With the current GT3 making 475 hp via a 3.8 flat six engine with a 9000rpm redline, it is hard to imagine how much more performance Porsche can extract out of the car. We are just going to have to wait until Porsche officially releases details of the new 2015 911 GT3 RS to the public later this year.
