McLaren-Honda in 'terrible trouble' - Brundle

McLaren-Honda in terrible trouble - Brundle

McLaren MP4-30 / XPB McLaren-Honda has found itself in "terrible trouble" ahead of the 2015 season.

That is the view of former team driver Martin Brundle, observing that McLaren has struggled simply to run its newly works Honda-powered MP4-30 in testing.

Not only that, star recruit Fernando Alonso is missing the Melbourne season opener, amid rampant speculation about the cause of his Barcelona crash.

"There are even a few people saying Alonso doesn't want to get in it yet," Brundle, now a leading British television commentator, told the Express newspaper.

"They are in terrible trouble, aren't they?"

But he insists team supremo Ron Dennis is confident the British-Japanese collaboration will eventually succeed.

"You would think so," said Brundle. "Ron says to me that they (Honda) have the best facilities that he has ever seen.

"It looks like they have some misery at the beginning but I wouldn't write them off for the whole season."

Rolls-Royce Phantom joins Abu Dhabi police fleet

Rolls-Royce Phantom joins Abu Dhabi police fleet

Rolls-Royce Phantom for Abu Dhabi police / arabianbusiness.com

Rivaling Dubai police

The police authorities in Abu Dhabi have recently taken delivery
of a Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The level of opulence expressed by the UAE police just
went up even more after adding a Rolls-Royce Phantom to a lineup which already
includes a wide array of expensive automobiles. Just like all the others, it won't be used
as a police car since all these high-end vehicles have been purchased for
bragging rights and are being displayed in the most important touristic
attractions of United Arab Emirates.

While Dubai's "police cars" have a two-tone white and
green paint scheme, this Phantom belonging to the Abu Dhabi police force has received a white and burgundy red finish.

We remind you that most vehicles part of Dubai's fleet are sportscars and
supercars,
including (but not limited
to) a Bugatti Veyron, Aston Martin One-77, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Ferrari FF,
BMW M6 GranCoupe, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8 and a Lamborghini. They also have a
Bentley Continental, Lexus RC F and a Renault Twizy probably just for contrast.

It now seems there's an ongoing "competition" between the Dubai and Abu Dhabi police authorities for the title of owning the most impressive fleet in the world.

Mercedes-AMG rules out hypercar; Black Series models will be back eventually

Mercedes-AMG rules out hypercar; Black Series models will be back eventually

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

More AMG Sport models planned

Mercedes-AMG has announced they are not planning a new
hypercar which would act as a successor of the SLS.

In an interview with Autocar
at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers said there aren't any
plans for a new hypercar or a mid-engine V8 supercar because AMG is "not in
that league" at this moment. However, AMG will continue to provide V12 engines
to Pagani as he believes the high capacity motor still has a bright future
ahead.

He also said the Black Series moniker hasn't been terminated but right now the standard versions "are so good" and a potential
Black Series variant would have to be "at the top of the hill" so it will take a while until the name will effectively come back.

The Mercedes-AMG chief did acknowledge
AMG-branded models will sooner or later receive the hybrid treatment while the AMG
Sport portfolio is bound to grow following the introduction of the C450
and GLE
450 Coupe which are both positioned right under the fully fledged AMG
models.

Moers added the AMG GT lineup will be expanded in the future
and chances are the first model will be a Porsche 911 GT3 rival while more
911-fighting derivatives are probably in the pipeline as well.

Audi Q7 e-tron quattro plug-in hybrid getting gasoline engine for US and China

Audi Q7 e-tron quattro plug-in hybrid getting gasoline engine for US and China

Audi Q7 e-tron 3.0 TDI quattro

2.0-liter turbo engine

Audi has announced the Q7
e-tron will be offered in United States and China with a gasoline engine.

Currently on display at the Geneva Motor Show, the Q7 e-tron
is Audi's second production plug-in hybrid after the A3
Sportback e-tron. It marries a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbodiesel engine with
an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery but only for the European version
as Audi has announced the Q7 e-tron set to be commercialized in United States
and China will make use of a gasoline engine.

The company's development boss Ulrich Hackenberg said during
a press event at the Geneva Motor Show that a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged
gasoline engine will be used for those two markets, adding that the
diesel-powered version could still make it to U.S. later on if there will be
enough demand.

Audi says the diesel Q7 e-tron will sit on top of the range so
it will be more expensive than the Q7 4.2 TDI which in Germany kicks off at
76,100. It will go on sale next spring while the gasoline version will
probably arrive a few months later.

Button denies Olympic bid reports

 Button denies Olympic bid reports

Jenson Button (GBR) / XPB Jenson Button has hit back at reports he contemplated quitting F1 for the Olympics.

The Mirror newspaper had quoted the McLaren driver as saying amid McLaren's dithering last year, the 35-year-old thought instead about launching a bid to contest the 2016 Olympic triathlon in Brazil.

"I did think about Rio and then decided 'no'," Button was quoted as saying.

But, including a link to the Mirror article, Button told his more than 2 million Twitter followers: "Just so you know, not even the tiniest bit of truth in this headline!"

Schumacher ski story is 'tragedy' - Ecclestone

Schumacher ski story is tragedy - Ecclestone

Michael Schumacher Bernie Ecclestone has described the fate of F1 legend Michael Schumacher as a "tragedy".

15 months ago, the seven time world champion fell whilst skiing with his son Mick in the French alps, suffering serious brain injuries.

"I know nothing about his current condition," F1 chief executive Ecclestone, who has known the now 46-year-old German for over two decades, said.

"This may sound strange," the 84-year-old Briton told Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper, "but it would have been more logical if he had had his accident in racing.

"That is the tragedy of this story," Ecclestone added. "He had a lot of crashes and took a lot of risks, but for it to happen like this? It was not even a skiing race."

Schumacher, with 91 grand prix wins to his name, is the most statistically successfully driver in the history of formula one.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Boss Edition

We now have an answer to General Motors' mysterious "Z71 Trail Boss" trademark filing back in January. Here it is - debuted at the Cleveland Auto Show of all places - an up-fitted Colorado. This bad boy has some meaty Goodyear DuraTrac all-terrain tires and... that's about it. Yep, the "Trail Boss" is basically a $3,320 tire upgrade.

McLaren 675LT

In a move that would fill the space left between the 650S supercar and the astronomically potent P1 hypercar, McLaren looks to be building a "track-focused development of the 650S" called the 675LT. With a nod to the F1 GTR "Long Tail," which competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance races of the late-90s, the limited-production 675LT would pack an even bigger punch than its 650S sibling, wringing every last ounce of performance possible from the platform.

Featuring enhanced aerodynamics, less weight, and even more power, the 675LT will essentially be offered as a barely-road-legal race car. It may bear all the appropriate markings of something you'd find out on a public highway, like headlights, a windshield, turn signals, and tires with grooves, but given the appropriate environment, the 675LT would handily trounce just about any competitor in a contest of speed. However, this extra performance also come at a hugely inflated price over the $265,500 650S.

Updated 03/06/2015: McLaren dropped a new promo video for its new 675LT. Enjoy!

Turbocharged Mustang 8-Second Quarter-Mile: Video

The fifth-generation Ford Mustang might have been replaced by a redesigned, more modern iteration for the 2015 model year, but it's still a number one choice for drag racers nationwide due to its traditional - some might say ancient - live rear axle. Fifth-gen 'Stangs can be seen burning rubber at just about any drag racing event across the U.S., but very few of them are as mind-blowing as the one you're about to see in this video. And there's more than one reason for that.

First, the Boss 302 coupe hides a massive, 82mm turbo under its hood, which enables the modified Coyote engine to send a whopping 1,000 horsepower to the rear wheels through a race-spec Rossler transmission. Second, the vehicle is well-camouflaged as a street car, with only the rear drag radials giving away its potential. Then there's the amazing fact that it can run 8-second quarter-miles. If that doesn't impress you, the fact that it's nearly a second quicker than a 1,200-horsepower Nissan GT-R should. Hit the play button to watch it leave its opponents behind as it does a couple of hot 1,320 runs.

Glickenhaus To Debut 2 New Cars At Geneva

James Glickenhaus is an investment mogul, but he is most famously known in the car community for his amazing collection of vehicles, most notably the custom P4/5 Pininfarina, and his racing team, known as Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. In the past, SCG has raced the P 4/5 Competitzione racecar in the grueling 24 hours of Nurburgring. Now it has been just revealed that James Glickenhaus has another special set of cars that he will debut at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show.

Dubbed the SCG 003S and the SCG 003C, this absolutely astonishing car will debut in two forms; there will be a road-legal version (Stradale), and a race version (Competitzione). Rather than keeping the cars to himself, this will be the first time that Glickenhaus will make cars to sell to customers. This is because rather than using a chassis from an existing car, as he had done with the P 4/5 and P 4/5 Competitizione, this will be a car that has been completely engineered and designed from the ground up.

From the details given, there will be two SC 003C racecars entered in the 2015 24 Hours of Nurburgring competition. It will be powered by a heavily modified version of Honda's twin-turbo 3.5L V6, in this guise it will be producing 530 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, and will weigh 1,350 kg, or just under 3000 lbs. The car's exterior design seems to have taken inspiration from LMP1 cars, with a massive rear wing, rear diffuser, and wrap-around body work that is quite lean.

The SCG 003S road car will have a modular design that will allow for various engines to fit within the bay. From the scarce details, it seems that the engine choices range from a de-tuned version of the same Honda twin-turbo 3.5L V6, to a twin-turbo V12. Glickenhaus even says that one configuration will rival the Koenigsegg One:1 power-to-weight ratio of 1 horsepower for every kilogram the car weighs.

As expected, the prices for James Glickenhaus' new cars will be astronomically high. He has been quoted as saying that the road car will start at around 2.1 million euros, and the race version to cost an extra 750,000 to 1 million euros.

The Geneva show is promising to be very exciting this year with many exotics to debut. However, we are waging that the SCG 003 twins will attract quite the crowd during the show.

Toyota 86 Pro-Am race series announced for Australia [video]

Toyota Australia has announced plans for a new Toyota 86 Pro-Am race series.

Set to kick off next year, the series will feature up to five professional drivers who will "mentor and compete against a larger field of amateur drivers who will qualify to get onto the starting grid."  They will use a modified Toyota 86 and race exclusively at select V8 Supercars events.

Toyota was coy on specifics but the race car will feature a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that has been equipped with a sports exhaust system, a remote oil cooler and a programmable ECU that will provide an "increase in performance" over the road-going model.  The car will also have an adjustable coil-over suspension, high-performance brakes and a roll cage.

While Toyota declined to release detailed performance specifications, they confirmed the development car has lapped Mt Panorama in 2:42.6, Wakefield Park in 1:08.7 and the Winton Motor Raceway in 1:37.8.

According to Toyota Australia executive director of sales and marketing, Tony Cramb, "The Toyota 86 Pro-Am series will present genuine, dynamic and entertaining racing to a broad audience, including big crowds at each round and a large audience on free-to-air and pay TV."  He went on to say "The dynamic abilities and fun-to-drive characteristics of the 86 provide a credible platform for motorsport - and many owners already compete regularly in tarmac rallies, lap dashes and other events."

Report of $231m deal for Hamilton 'like satire' - Wolff

Report of $231m deal for Hamilton like satire - Wolff

Lewis Hamilton (GBR) / XPB Toto Wolff has scoffed at a media report purporting to know the dizzying value of Lewis Hamilton's next Mercedes contract.

Although the reigning world champion now has no manager, the parties remain locked in protracted talks about a new deal beyond 2015.

London's Times newspaper said the current discussion is about a new three-year extension worth a staggering $231 million, or $77 million per year.

To be clear, that would be nearly an incredible $1.5 million per week for the 30-year-old Briton, making him easily the highest earner in the history of formula one.

"Sources say Hamilton has decided that, as world champion, he must be the best-paid man on the grid and is anxious to overtake the earnings of Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso," the report claimed.

German media reports, however, quoted team boss Wolff as utterly rubbishing the claims, saying it is closer to "satire" than reality.

"Such numbers are an absolute illusion," the Austrian added.

"As Mercedes, we are committed to efficiency, even when it comes to the driver salaries," Wolff insisted.

Mercedes can probably afford to play hardball with Hamilton, given that although he is a proven title winner and arguably the most marketable driver on the grid, the German team is undoubtedly the most coveted address in pitlane.

"You're never in a perfect (negotiating) situation," Wolff said, "but as Lewis wants to be with us, and we want to keep him, what we need to do is find a basis for the two sides to come together."

Contract talks were said to be at an advanced stage some weeks ago at the Jerez test, "But it just takes time," Wolff explained.

"We have similar ideas, but it is important to implement them in a contract."

Turning his attention to Mercedes' looming title defence, meanwhile, Wolff admitted it will be healthy for the sport if there are more competitive opponents in 2015.

"Ferrari has made a big jump," he said, "and according to our estimates, they are also now really fast on the straight.

"This pleases us, because it is important for formula one that Ferrari is at the front," added Wolff.

"Like last year, Williams has built a car with low drag, so the only real question mark we have is Red Bull."

Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG upgraded to 830 HP and 1,350 Nm by Posaidon

Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG upgraded to 830 HP and 1,350 Nm by Posaidon

Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG by Posaidon

Hits 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds

German tuner Posaidon has prepared a massive power upgrade
for the Mercedes-Benz
G63 AMG.

The G-Class never gets old so that is why many aftermarket
specialists are still working on the legendary off-roader which is even more
appealing in the AMG guise. Posaidon is a fine example as they have prepared a
comprehensive upgrade kit for the G63 AMG which in its stock configuration
provides 544 HP (400 kW) and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) from a twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter
engine.

Posaidon replaced the standard turbochargers with more
powerful ones and they also worked on the air intake system and intercooler.
There's also a custom sports exhaust system, remapped engine ECU and a revised
7G-Tronic gearbox which now has to handle no less than 830 HP (610 kW) and a
torquetastic 1,350 Nm (997 lb-ft).

Despite its sheer size and weight, the tuned Mercedes G63 AMG
will need only 4.2 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h), thus making it 1.2s
quicker than the standard G63 AMG. There's no word about the top speed but we
remind you Mercedes-Benz electronically limits the off-roader to 130 mph (210
km/h).

Based on the iQ[Al] platform

A test prototype of
the Jaguar F-Pace has been recently caught on camera in the UK.

Spotted near the M42
motorway, the British SUV features a heavy camouflage hiding a sculptured
slopping roof line, wraparound taillights and a small spoiler on the tailgate. There's
also and a set of multi-spoke black alloy wheels.

The production F-Pace
was announced at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year. "The ultimate
practical sports car" will ride on the iQ[Al] platform that also underpins the
XE. The high-riding model will also share its engine lineup with the sedan
which means we can expect a range of 4-cylinder units and possibly a
range-topping 3.0-liter V6 powerplat with 340 bhp (253 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450
Nm) of torque..

Early points unlikely for Force India - Perez

Early points unlikely for Force India - Perez

Sergio Perez (MEX), Sahara Force India F1 VJM08 / XPB Force India's drivers are expecting a difficult start to the 2015 season.

The Silverstone based team ended last year on a competitive high, not far behind another similarly Mercedes-powered but much better funded team, McLaren.

But behind the scenes, there was trouble. Along with Lotus and Sauber, the team was complaining loudly about the sport's income model, and over the winter the reasons for Force India's worries became clear.

Due to financial and supplier trouble, the new car for 2015 was badly delayed, and in fact only made its debut at the tail end of the final Barcelona test last week.

"We are on the back foot now," admitted German driver Nico Hulkenberg, "so the other teams are a few steps ahead of us."

Teammate Sergio Perez added: "Going into the season with only one day of testing in the new car is definitely not ideal."

Indeed, while Hulkenberg debuted the VJM08 last Friday and drove again on Saturday, Mexican Perez only made his bow on Sunday as the winter season ended.

"I am really hoping for a good start," he is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport, "but it will be difficult.

"From the third or fourth race we want to be fighting for the points."

SCG 003

If the name SCG doesn't ring a bell for you its only because up until now you were more familiar with the "James Glickenhaus." Yes, the developer of the famous Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina and the race version, the P4/5 Competizione. SCG - or Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus - is his personal brand that will hit the market with two new models: a road car called 003 and the race version, 003C. Why 003? Simply because it will be the third model developed by Glickenhaus.

In a recent post Glickenhaus, said that the company already started to work on the engineering, aero and design, but unfortunately you shouldn't expect to see the new model until later in 2015.

Updated 02/27/2015: James Glickenhaus revealed the official details of the SCG 003 supercar with just a few days before the official debut in Geneva.

New 1000hp+ AMG Hybrid Hypercar In The Works?

It is no secret that Mercedes-Benz's new flagship sports car, the AMG GT, is aimed squarely at the Porsche 911. The price, power, speed, and even the shape of the AMG GT are all similar to that of 911. However, AMG might have another Porsche competitor in the works, but this time they have their sights set at the top of the Porsche line-up, the 918 Spyder. Recently, Motor Trend sat down to talk with AMG CEO Tobias Moers at the Detroit Auto Show and some interesting information came out of it.

Last year, Motor Trend's Senior Features Editor Johnny Lieberman flat out asked AMG's Moers if they were going to make a car to compete in the ultra-exclusive hybrid hypercar segment that is currently made up of the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, and the Ferrari LaFerrari. Moer's response was a straight up "no". However, when Lieberman posed the same question to the AMG boss at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, his response this time was worth speculating on: "We want to be seen by the public on the same level as the other sports car maker in Germany."

Without naming names, the "other sports car maker in Germany" is obviously Porsche. Moer's diplomatic response to the question has led us to speculate that AMG has indeed at least thought of the idea of competing in the hybrid hypercar market. Mercedes will most likely use a more powerful version of their all-new 4.0L twin turbo V8, which produces 510 hp in the AMG GT S. It is speculated that this engine will be tuned to make 650-700 hp in their new hypercar.

Digging deeper, AMG already has done some development on hybrid powertrains for sporty applications. The SLS electric drive that AMG developed put out 740 hp from 4 electric motors powering each wheel individually. Assuming that AMG uses a similar motors and set up for the front axle, we could be potentially seeing 370 hp powering the front axle and close to 700 hp powering the rear axle for a grand total of over 1000 hp from the hybrid powertrain. This will put it near, or at the top, in terms of power output from the current 3 hybrid hypercars.

In terms of layout and design, it will most likely be mid-engined for packaging purposes. The current FR layout of the AMG GT does not have the flexibility to convert it into an AWD set up, especially one with a hybrid system on board. The people over at Topspeed.com have done some rendering of what they think the new AMG flagship will look like. We have posted the renderings below.

For now this is all speculation of what is to really come from the crazy engineers over in Affalterbach. All we know is that something really exciting is going to be arriving from AMG in the not-so-distant future.

Aston Martin Vulcan Revealed Ahead of Geneva

Recently we wrote that Aston Martin was prepared to debut their all new track-only vehicle, the Vulcan, at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show. At first they gave us a little teaser in the form of a short video clip of the supposed car on the track. Now, unexpectedly , Aston Martin has released more details and official images of their new track beast.

From the press release, Aston Martin has revealed some quite exciting details about the new Vulcan track car. First and foremost is the powertrain that will propel this monstrous car. The Aston Martin Vulcan will be powered by a 7.0L V12, and although an official power output hasn't been stated, Aston Martin has confirmed that it will produce "over 800 horsepower". All that power will mean squat if it has to lug around unnecessary weight, and being a track focused car, the Vulcan will extensively utilize carbon fiber in its construction. At it's core, the Vulcan will have a carbon fiber monocoque with carbon fiber body panels made by Canadian company Multimatic, the same company that Aston turned to for the One-77 hypercar and Ford will go to for the carbon fiber construction of the new Ford GT. The Vulcan will also receive very high-tech FIA-approved racing equipment. It will get pushrod suspension, a 6 speed sequential transmission, adjustable dampers and rollbars, fully adjustable traction control, and adjustable ABS carbon ceramic brakes.

Production will be limited to a scarce 24 cars, so if you want one you should probably give Aston Martin a call right now. Although a price has not been confirmed, expect it to have a 7 figure price tag. However that price will include membership into Aston Martin's exclusive racing development program. This program will offer customers both practical and theory training by Darren Turner, a 2 time winner in the GT1 class with Aston Martin, on some of the most renowned racing circuits in the world.

The official reveal of the car will be on March 3rd, 2015 at the Geneva International Motor Show
